The Christmas Candle
Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village of Gladbury. Legend has it every 25 years an angel visits the village candlemaker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights this candle receives a miracle on Christmas Eve. But in 1890, at the dawn of the electric age, this centuries old legend may come to an end. When David Richmond, a progressive young minister, arrives in Gladbury, the villagers discover a new formula for miracles: good deeds and acts of kindness.

The only reason anyone ever heard of this, or watched it, was because of Susan Boyle. She hardly features in the film because she's not an actor and is plainly terrified and confused about what his happening. The director correctly makes the decision to minimise her involvement. The film is about a magic force-shield wish-granting candle and the evils of electricity.

After giving Rev. Richmond the pulpit for a good long Sunday sermon's worth of time, however, the film then pairs his insistence upon active, practical faith with the reminder that God does still answer prayers, sometimes in startling ways. Sometimes even with a heavenly miracle. (pluggedin.com)

Great start, I thought I'd be giving this an 80 or so, but then ends similarly to all other preachy Christian movies - someone who has lost their faith finds it again and a simple prayer, this time coupled with a candle, leads to a miracle.
