You know what, this is pretty good. It's very carefully made and you can really tell how meticulous a director Boetticher was. The trouble is that it's somehow less exciting than some of his later westerns. It's full of intrigue and heists and stuff, but it's all sort of stale and boring.

Sunday afternoon easy-watchin' type western that's a little bland and predictable in terms of characters and plot. Some of the action set pieces are very entertaining, with stunt performers admirably throwing themselves around like salmon swimming up stream after theatrically and bloodlessly being shot. Good fun overall.

Quite a solid Audie Murphy western. One with a outlaw touch. While it follows a familiar pattern, it does also keep you guessing, which is more than what most B-westerns did.
