The City Below

If nothing else, this reaffirms my initial hunch that Hochhausler is clearly the stand-out talent of the Berliner Schule. It actually resembles nothing so much as Antonioni's trilogy of Modernist ennui and alienation perfectly updated for our Postmodern, late capitalist era. Along with Assayas' Demonlover and Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, this is an eerily on-point reflection of the rootless, haunted age in which we live (or as Gang Gang Dance, who get namedropped here, said "it's everything time").
