For handyman and ex-con Arkin, a quiet home and a family on vacation is an "opportunity". For inside the house lies a jeweler's safe, and inside the safe is a gem - his only hope for repaying a debt to his ex-wife and keeping what's left of his family intact. Unfortunately for Arkin, inside the house is also a box containing the latest addition to a collection catalogued in blood, bone and tears... (Freestyle Releasing)

Yes, it's indefensible, mean-spirited, sadistic trash that doesn't make a lick of sense. But it has a dude that gets the tips of his fingers chopped off and then falls into 10 bear traps at once. This actually happens. Hilarious.

It's like Saw date-raped Home Alone.

I'm still waiting for the forthcoming Discovery Channel special which shows how our twinkly-eyed villain was able to board all the windows, attach razor blades to the bottom of each board, add several new deadbolts to all the doors, whip up multiple McCauley Culkin-approved Rube Goldberg murder machines, construct several convenient torture stations in the cellar, and drag in at least a baker's dozen heavy-duty iron bear traps into the foyer...all in the few hours before the plucky hero arrives.

Well I honestly did not expect Kevin McCallister to grow up into that.

Interesting idea, maybe just torture porn sure, but still interesting idea. Not sure how it makes any sense though.

Fairly decent, standard creative-deaths horror a la the Saw films. Must say it is a vile, indefensible genre of entertainment, though - no discernible message or goal, just "fun" torture and slaughter with the villain as hero.

A pretty crazy horror film. Imagine the traps and puzzles of Saw. Now imagine Jason from Friday the 13th chasing you through those traps and you have The Collector. The movie is incredibly violent with some truly stomach churning scenes. The film isn't against killing animals either as a cat gets killed in a very gruesome way and a dog (albeit a bad dog) also gets sent to the Pet Cemetery. This does get quite scary, in fact my pulse is still racing as I'm typing this review. Very good horror.

Bad thinking-man's slasher where the villain sets traps for his victims instead of tracking them down and brutally slaying them, which is not a bad thing...except this movie has nothing else to offer but the traps, which are generally uninteresting and not particularly original.

There isn't an ounce of intelligence behind this film. I can't wait for this torture-porn fad to be over.

Great. A family's fate depends upon a claustrophobic game of cat and mouse between a thief and a serial killer. This movie does everything right, from the stifling horrific atmosphere to the perfectly evil, near animalistic cunning serial killer. Collector makes Jigsaw feel like Mr Rogers. A smart tense storyline with good character development coupled with flawless direction and non-stop, pulse pounding, edge of your seat action makes this a very scary thriller. Very Highly Recommended.

An alright movie sandwitched between some of the most obnoxious opening titles I've ever seen and an ending that these sort of films really need to stop using. Still worth a watch but nothing special.

What happens when Kevin Mcallister grows up a bit twisted? I think what impressed me about this was the main hero not doing stupid things, a rarity in these films.

Torture porn seems so labour intensive in this film. Will Collector 2 feature his chiropractor?

Kevin McCallister grows up and starts killing people. Surprisingly good if you go into it with no expectations. I liked it because it was cavalier enough to remind me of the 1st saw movie (which I appreciated for what it was). Hands down the best alternate ending I've ever seen.

From the guys who gave us Feast and the last few Saw movies...This movie is a Saw knock off..with all the traps..and the ending...this movie is depressing, dark and its like watching the torture of helpless people who never seem to get a chance to avenge

Well... It does what it's supposed to but what so many other films also do: Thrill... So if you don't care to much about plot, story evolvement, plain sense in a film or are able to set all these things aside, you're in for a ride. If you can't, don't waste you're time unless you wanna watch Saw vs. Hostel Ultra Light!

I mean, if you like gore then it's just Saw 2 with a slightly more interesting story. But, people, seriously, the 'Torture Porn' sub genre isn't scary. At all. What have horror films become...

i guess the flaw is that it wants to be a new franchise, so it keeps details light hoping youll wait for more, but its not interesting enough to justify that. decent slasher thriller, ending was mostly ruined by the character doing a couple really dumb things. it was fine that not every plan of his worked and he messed up and learned along the way, but then not killing the collector when he could, and running straight into the police convoy... like why

Great start to a new series. Pretty cool premise, hits a lot of good buttons. Lots of shocks, violence, twists, and neat ideas thrown in. The little bit they let you know about The Collector is just enough.

The MacGuyver of torture traps and Rube Goldberg death devices makes for some interesting, if contrived, death setups. At first the grainy film stock and slow paced opening had me hoping for a suspenseful hitchcockian thriller, but unfortunately the director was so proud of the SAW inspired death devices that they become the point of the film and all the old lazy slasher film cliches take the place of a plot. The omnipotent serial killer, the eloborate traps that defy plausibility and suspense.

An interesting and different kind of horror film mashing a few cliches together to produce something different and unaverage. From a couple of people behind the Saw films, we are given a new premise on the home invasion film. Very similar to 2006's Them and 2008's The Strangers, but yet very unlike those films, The Collector gives us a new horror villain I am intrigued enough by to see in a sequel. Give this a rental if you want something different.

Honestly recommend this film to any horror/thriller fans looking for something less predictable and don't hate the film just because it uses traps doesnt mean its saw =/

I shouted at the screen out of frustration way too many times. The key to making a movie that takes place in a very limited space is that the protagonist should not have plenty of opportunity and ease to escape, and then the reason they're there anyway can easily be achieved and they can go home. The visuals really date the movie as well with MTV music video editing and a green and blue color palette you'd see in a nu metal video. Even for its time it would look pretty dated.
