This is the third Pete Walker film I've watched, and it's fair to say that I'm warming to his style. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it wasn't this - it's almost a slasher, but there's a bit more beneath the surface, and no lack of skill behind the camera. Sharp is great as the priest, and the assembled cast help keep the somewhat outlandish premise credible. It's pretty bleak overall, but definitely worth a look.

Sharp is convincingly demented as a psycho priest. This contains several effective shock scenes and another wonderfully disturbed perf -- this time as the killer confessor's caretaker -- by the excellent Keith.

Pete Walker made a series of incredible horror films in the 1970's that all, to one degree or another, deal with the corruption and hypocrisy of authority figures and institutions. There's a real nasty edge and a certain salaciousness that comes from his background in sexploitation, but his films are more complex than your average British horror of the period.
