The Conspiracy

The movie gets steadily worse throughout its run time. Conspiracy theories themselves are far more interesting than whatever it is this movie ends up being about.

One of the more successful uses of found footage, although it still isn't my favorite. The conspiracy is silly and familiar yet made ultimately believable with some very good directing and editing.

Decent premise but not very well put together. It veers into cliche territory practically from the get-go, and in the end there are a lot of loose ends left. I feel like I wanted to watch something more cerebral.

More believable than the usual paranormal themed found footage film. A far cry from horror thought.

Interesting with some slight problems in the the end that take you out of the movie. Conspiracy theorist are great fodder for horror and this uses it perfectly. Also this movie follows the Mockumentary genre rules exactly, so the ending will be a love it or hate it kind of deal. (I loved it! So Much foreshadowing and little nods.)

Kill List (2011)

The conclusion denies a conventional payoff, or at least an utterly unsubtle conventional payoff, in a way both prefigured in the movie and, for me, somewhat unexpected, but appropriate given the material. The dislike of this film in general veers between, I think, a general response to its limitations, and a response to what is precisely smart about its construction.

Not terribly made and the last act is pretty great but it's also pretty reprehensible in how it works in real batshit insane theories and things like actual 9/11 footage to prop up it's fictional narrative. I can see how it's supposed to make the conspiracy in the film seem real but it just feels sort of wrong and exploitative

I was actually pretty surprised with this movie. It was a slow burner but it built a lot of tension and was pretty interesting and although the payoff wasn't very conventional, it suited the topic at hand.

It's basically The Wicker Man updated to fit with the "found footage" fad and some other contemporary themes (Kill List also comes to mind, someone mentioned Gareth Evans' bit in VHS2, and too many other cult-related horror movies to enumerate), but for something so derivative and conventional it's not half bad. Better acting and a more imaginative final act might have made this good, really.

It's pretty alright! The idea of a documentary on an illuminati that has itself been compromised by that same illuminati is pretty clever, and the last third has a couple genuinely good scares. But it stalls out hard in the second act, and the conspiracy theory grab bag they rely on up until the Tarsus Group finally gets introduced is pretty lazily scattershot.

It drifted along without ever completely grabbing my attention until I switched off half way through after losing the plot

I liked. Has some good tension throughout.

My computer suddenly shut down when I was watching the movie. It made 3 times thrilling.

It follows an interesting story and it mostly works as a mockumentary. The ending is kinda drab (especially the way a lot of it was filmed), but it managed to interest me all the way through. The script isn't anything to write home about, neither are the performances, but it's fine.
