Douglas Fairbanks Jr. plays Siamese twins, separated by a good doctor after their parents are killed by Vendetta. One goes to Paris, one to the Corsican Mountains to become, respectively, a gentleman and a bandit. What will happen? "I have performed the miracle I have separated their bodies. But what of their souls?" Lucien feels everything Mario feels. 20 years pass and they are reunited in Corsica. Banditry and vendetta and a beautiful Corsican countess ensue. (imdb)

Douglas Fairbanks Jr. described Akim Tamiroff as "an excellent Russian actor" who was "woefully miscast" in this film as he was "physically short and too fat." I vehemently disagree with Fairbanks Jnr.; Tamiroff is perfectly cast as Colonna and is the highlight of this sorry saga. But I did very much enjoy the double dose of Fairbanks Jnr.! What a year 1941 was for Ruth Warrick; the on-screen love interest of Tamiroff, Fairbanks Jnr. and Orson Welles ('Citizen Kane' was also released in 1941)!

A Fairbanks in a Alexandre Dumas story, that's usually a successful combination. And it is again. A fine performance from Jr., H.B. Warner as the doctor too. The bad guys were perhaps a little too comical i their scheming to create enough tension and I wouldn't have minded if they's made it more of a swashbuckler than it was, for it takes a while to get going focusing on the differences of the twin brothers and their personal demons. Another example of that Fairbanks vibrancy.
