The Courtship of Eddie's Father

Ron Howard is cute, but Shirley Jones and Dina Merrill are both hot.

Jerry Van Dyke as a ladies' man? Puh-lease. Decent 60's flick, though.

A father and son dealing with grief provide a great opportunity for the actors. Both Glen Ford and Ron Howard deliver. This gives us many tender moments and some drama. The romantic side of the movie doesn't work as well, making this an average movie.

Of course this is Ron Howard's film, and he gives an absolutely incredible performance. Minnelli is the perfect director to make this movie, he lets the subtlety of the performances get writ large in color and lighting.

liked it mostly for the great interaction between ford and howard. great actors given honest dialogue...really worked for me. relationships between all the other characters are underdeveloped, the romances aren't given any depth... but still the film ultimately isn't really about anything but the relationship between father and son.
