seeing the Duke getting shot and killed by the guy who's ass he kicked was sad. But seeing the little kids fire guns was pretty funny.

I liked this movie except for the part where John Wayne gets killed. That part kind of sucked. Otherwise, the movie was good. It is easy to hate Bruce Dern as the low down dirty rustler. Roscoe Lee Browne was a great choice for the chuck wagon. Music is typical old western style.

John Wayne only has a few days to train a bunch of teenage cowboys to help him herd his cattle. Not bad at all.

Rushed character development for the boys, practically none for everyone else except the cook (The best character). This is mostly a vehicle for John Wayne's ego, so much that his character doesn't even try to look anything but a caricature of John Wayne. Also, the ending is pretty lame and morally questionable, but it's nice to see [(SPOILER)] John Wayne finally dying for a change, even if he miraculously survives that night after getting shot. Guess they couldn't just "kill" John Wayne, right?

My style. Last 30 minutes were pretty bad, but the rest was really cute and easy to watch.

Very difficult to rate, cause it's a very decent movie until the ending which revealed a highly questionable moral. For a long time this is a nice warm movie about an elderly JW and an endearing RLB guiding some boys trough some rites of passages during a cattle drive. But the last part unfortunately reveals that the lessons these boys apparently had to learn is what makes a man a real man is being a coldblooded killer. The ending flushed away all the sweetness and left a very sour aftertaste.

One of the last of the great 'Sixties-style expansionist adventure movies, with big vistas and big images and an overture, intermission and en'tracte. Also one that played on the destruction of legendry -- here is where Wayne dies his most regrettable and realistic onscreen death, and here is where he becomes father to us all. Bruce Dern more than holds his own as a heavy worthy of Wayne, and that's saying a lot.

This is not only boring, but wrong as well. Why not just film children shooting damn hippies in a face and becoming real men in the act. School is for suckers anyway. YYYha!

A great performance from John Wayne, but nothing else of substance here.

John Wayne takes a dozen kids under his wing to fill a shortage in his workforce and teaches them about cattle and manliness. The results are about awesome and violent as one could hope for.
