By no means a great film but an oddly compelling one. Rona Hartner is mesmerizing.

A wonderfully chaotic film. The first hour had me in stitches repeatedly. It falls away slightly towards the end, but only in comparison to the high standard of the first two acts.

Jane Seymour lovers' gypsy fantasy. You can find joy and sadness in same song with two different dances. Salute to Kuleshov.

A gypsy tale, starts and ends like one and goes on with music as it should be. Small flaws in the story telling. I think the conflict at the end, which may have been presented enough clues at the begining, should be refered more till the end. Perfect road story...

Will test your patience for rambling, unstructured narratives, but it’s difficult not to be swept up in the earthy, vibrant atmosphere of the gypsy camp (for the first act at least) before the lack of any truly galvanizing incident begins to become wearying. Final act which tips into fiery melodrama feels unearned, with the lack of story thrust meaning it seems to come from nowhere. Fine performances from Duris and Hartner, and a sparky Anthony Quinn impression from Serban, compensate somewhat.
