Although it has familiar themes for a nature documentary - life and death, birth and re-birth and so on - it's elevated by some truly stunning cinematography that would make Attenborough envious. I liked Frostrup's narration, too. It's poetic at times, but never felt overly sentimental or condescending to me. Nor does the film anthropomorphise the subjects, or flinch away from showing the harsher side of the natural world. I found it informative and engaging in equal measures.

Didn't realise Disney still made feature-length natural history films. Thankfully this is a world away from the anthropomorphised and sentimental type they produced back in the 50s and 60s. Frostrup's narration superb, but for this Brit Attenborough's shoes are hard to fill. Cinematography is superb, with the otherworldliness of life on the vast salt plains making it seem at times like an alien planet. A solid documentary but not on par with the BBC documentaries that obviously inspired it.
