The Curse of La Llorona

One of the weaker entries in the universe. The spirit here just isn't quite as scary as "The Nun", nor is it as menacing as "Annabelle". In spite of its shortcomings, every entry thus far is leagues ahead of a good swathe of its horror peers, but the bottom half of horror movies is probably the worst in the industry. In other words, competition is low--take your horror where you can get it and don't complain.

If every mother that ever snapped and drowned her kids became a ghost demon then we would actually probably need the Ghostbusters. It happens a lot! Linda Carellini steal me away.

Many extra points for the performance of Linda Cardellini. However, the supernatural nonsense was on overdrive with this one. The plot is entirely ridiculous and tedious. Raymond Cruz had one of the worst roles of his career. Tony Amendola did well for having such a lame role.

I really did have to think over whether I liked this or Pet Sematary more, and I guess given the choice, I'll take the one that actually has some kind of message behind it other than "Mexico is mysterious, you guys". There just wasn't really any *hook* to this, it's, "here's this woman, here's what she did, now she's a demon because reasons". Any horror movie can make me close my eyes; I'm looking for the ones that invest me, and this one, while passable for what it wanted to be, simply didn't.

Please tell me that this was supposed to be a parody of horror films like Scary movie!? La Llorona must be the least evil evil spirit you could possibly imagine, spends the entire time scaring people, hurting poor kids wrists, almost as if they were running a scam trying to get people to call "the exorcist". I kept waiting for the mercenary preacher to ask the family if they just wanted the base $1,000 package or if they want to spring for the premium deal that includes purifying the pool.

Working title was "Cliches: The Remake."

I'm not a horror newbie nor do I know "haunting" horror films well, but I'm liking this franchise. I felt suspense (last 40 mins) & saw new & effective scares here (the car windows). It's also nice to see that some thought has been put into the script. Making the lead a child protective services worker who removes children is a solid thematic parallel, even if little is done w/ it. The way they battle the ghost makes sense too, & there's even an unexpected twist (she who walks past the seeds).

One of the duller entries in the Conjuring universe, but after The Nun, I'm not so surprised. Linda Cartellini does a good job, and with every movie in this shared universe there's one or two scenes that are genuinely spooky. It is what it is.

Not terrible just very very average. Not scary, nothing new, nothing inventive, hell not even anything done all that well. But its competent and that more than I can say about most 2019 horror films I've seen so far.

Will Cardellini ever land a decent film role? She does the best she can under the circumstances, but this is by the numbers horror that is only vaguely connected to The Conjuring Universe yet looks and sounds like a direct copy, despite its mythical origins lying elsewhere. Chaves simply mimics Wan's style, which was already a composite to begin with, to much lesser effect, and he makes the fatal mistake of piling on the jump scares from the getgo, leaving no room to breathe.

Probably the best version of this story i've seen.

I totally understand why the Conjuring connection was downplayed in the marketing now, because this is genuinely indistinguishable from The Nun, in that it is equally as contrived, boring, and miserable.

One of those inoffensive, run of the mill, not scary, low budget, short, sequel-to-a-decent-film, film.

Typical Exorcist ripoff stuff, with a little dash of a Mexican culture twist to it. Climax where (spoilers I guess) the mom stabs the theoretically non-corporeal ghost in the heart with a crucifix like it’s a vampire movie or some shit was pretty laughable. Gotta say though that Linda Cardellini was a proper smokeshow with her tight bod and mom jeans; guess my youth is officially over because some tasteful wrinkles/aging no longer have any real impact on my ability to pop a tent for an actress

Yine intikam peşinde koşan manyak ruh filmi. The Rings filminin konusuna benzerliği ile dikkat çeken film, kurgusuyla izlettiriyor. Fakat klişe olması filmi basite çeviriyor. Sonunun akıllı ruh kaçırıcısının, ruhu yok etmesi başarılı. Yani filmin devamı olmaması artı puan. Hep o Patricia'nın yüzünden. Saçını başını yolacağım senin.

Such a waste of quite a nice idea/folk tale.

The Conjuring evreninin hastasıyım ve her yapımı kaçırmadan izliyorum iyi kötü farketmeden. The Nun ortalama bi korku sunuyordu buda öyle başroldeki ablamız çok tatlı klasik Conjuring evreni filmi.Conjuring filmlerine yakışmayan filmler olsa da çerezlik gidiyor her sene bi tane :)
