The Dark Horse

A socio-political comedy that is still funny today (plus ça change...). If only I had seen this before the 2000 election, I might have better understood how George W. Bush could possibly become President--or, more accurately, get enough votes to give the Supreme Court cover for appointing him President. Warren William is great as the double-talking campaign manager. Bette Davis is fine, but miscast. Guy Kibbee was the perfect choice, and there are some fun pre-code touches.

Warren William is the perfect campaign manager! He was on. Making over-the-top mumbo jumbo speeches. And does all he can to get that stupid smiling fool Guy Kibbee elected governor. And Kibbee sure looked the fool! And just imagine his face when suggestion of playing strip poker came up! William was also caught between two women. Vivienne Osborne, his ex wife who keeps putting him in jail for unpaid alimony and his ambitious young blond lover, Bette Davis!
