An absolutely delicious performance from Olivia de Havilland, taut direction from Siodmak, and atmospheric, noir-esque cinematography from Milton R. Krasner make this a real gem.

Olivia de Havilland is absolutely the star here. Even just one of these performances would be impressive, but both, and the way they play off each other is incredible. It's more psychodrama than noir, but there's certainly enough cinematographic style to fit the genre and the core of the story is a creative crime plot. Even with a few quibbles here and there with the blunt "psychology as plot device" that was common at the time, the story is always captivating and carries the film well.

Not my favorite by Siodmak, but as always the cinematography is excellent. Olivia de Havilland is great in this. I had no idea it was possible to pull off having "twins" on-screen together so well, especially in 1946.

Olivia de Havilland's performances as the twins almost rival her formidable acting in 'The Heiress'. And once again, Siodmak is the man. Definitely one of my favorite directors of the forties.

This is a decent thriller, but not much more than that. de Havilland is good at playing the twins and Ayres isn't bad.

Olivia de Havilland does a very good job in the double role, with Lew Ayres as the psychiatrist trying to untangle the mystery. The story is compelling enough without being too gimmicky. It exploits the twin angle fairly well, although I wish the psychology had been a bit more subtle. Also, the Tompkins score is pretty bad. Still, despite the flaws, it's a rather enjoyable movie, thanks mostly to de Havilland and Siodmak's terrific sense of visual style.

BlurayRip Yify.

A good example of Siodmak making the most of a story that, although intriguing and engaging, has the unfortunate characteristic of being overly convenient. Olivia de Havilland performs the two roles in great cohesion with Siodmak's visual style that's always worth mentioning.

One of the best twin jobs I've ever seen! Olivia de Havilland talking to herself seemed like the most natural thing in the world! Lovely psychological mystery too. And adding a aging Lew Ayres for his first film in four years was a welcome surprise. He now reminded me of John Gilbert, and I wasn't hating that! To put it simple: I was loving this picture right from the start.
