The Darkest Hour

Cloaked aliens that can instantly incinerate life forms kill some bad actors while some other bad actors manage to survive by illogical means. Two attractive white people fall in love even though their best friends died less than a day before. The last 15 minutes will make you hate movies forever.

It must have taken some nerve to decide to release this piece-of-shit theatrically. The effects are unbelievably bad.

Paper thin characters, actors without skills, entire Moscow almost isolated (i.e. small cast movie), bad effects and very, very underdeveloped script. The story gave an impression that everything happened in couple of days. And above all the end was lamest in long time. The dusting effects was nice, but even that was not an idea of their own.

God help me, but I didn't think it was THAT bad. Which isn't an endorsement or anything - it's cheesy and dramatically unconvincing as hell - but, I don't know, I popped it in looking for people running from, getting killed by, and zapping invisible aliens, and that's pretty much all it is. It's certainly not good, but I see a worse movie every other week.

Proof that when aliens DO invade, the surviving band of pretty people will eventually die off due to the fact that they lost their cellphone signals and are, therefore, incapable of commenting on their Facebook pages.

ok, so I was supposed to watch Darkest Hour (2017), but I guess I hit the wrong torrent. lmao.

So you choose Russia as a location that you would have an excuse for your lack of intelligent to make a longer than 2 minutes conversation? "yes u go there. we stay" - applause?

For the most part, this movie has incurred the wrath of pretty much anybody with the ability to talk, but in all actuality it's really not that crappy. I was never very engaged, none of the acting was particularly good, and the whole script could have used a good write over, but you're not going to want to gouge your own eyes out for watching it.

Interesting concept, and some cool effects. The acting is a bit unbelievable, but I actually enjoyed watching it.

The darkest hour? Yes, but only if you take my advice and turn off your TV and sit in umbral bliss for 60 minutes rather than subject yourself to this celluloid equivalent of an utterly incurable and extremely itchy venereal disease. What I learned from this movie: apparently nuclear subs have the ability to connect text-happy American mothers with their wanderlust-stricken daughters in Russia. Take that AT&T!

Bad movie

Semi entertaining in parte but overall a terrible attempt at horror and cheesy invisible attackers. Did I mention bad acting

No film that explicitly lists Antwerp and Budapest as the cities with survivors, can possibly be bad. Add to that the most beautiful alien invasion I've ever seen and you know why this film actually gets a decent score. Apart from that though, the film messes up in many departments - but the general slightly positive feeling remains.

Oh man, the acting in this was horrendous -- not that they really had a stellar script to go off of, though. Cheesy skull-faced aliens and a strangely vacant looking Moscow are only icing on the cake for a movie that is persistently bad from the get-go.

The monsters were original on some details, and the setting changes from the usual American city. I like the fact they didn't hesitate to kill characters. But otherwise, the monsters were cheesy, the ending seemed weak and rushed, and some of the weird physics are too distracting to ignore.

It was alright. It had some good moments, and other were extremely cheesy. It had a good idea, but put through a bit bluntly.

The form of the millennial film: the collaborative project where every task is a response essay; characters emote, discuss, and struggle their way to consensus and then... well, that's the action, really: after that they run between scenes which are basically places, acting out paint-by-numbers workshop style writing, and hope CGI carries the rest. Positives: low on diversity. Negatives: boring, hopelessly so, but infuriatingly neurotic, effete, and pretentious, like millennials and boomers.

OK, it's not a great movie, but it held me to the end nonetheless. Most characters are cookie-cutter, the story is cheesy and deaths are sadly all the same. I guess what kept me in was the idea of the invaders and the unusual ways it opened to hide from them and fight back. Kudos on that at least.

This movie had it's ups and downs. On the positive side I think this movie had one of the more creative uses of aliens that I have seen in a very long time. I was extremely pleased on the design of these entities from space. I am also a fan of movies that are not afraid to kill off main characters. That takes courage and I am glad they went there. Now as far as bad things... the script was pretty bad. The dialogue was just not there. Also Emile Hirsch needs to find a new agent.

Solid if cliched alien invasion movie held up by the unique creatures.

It surely wasn't complete rubbish.. but it's pretty damn close. Some aspects are plain ridiculous but at least the film is short and offered some entertainment.

From decent aliens, a terrific setting, and hot girls there are potential here, but a few bright sparks apart the script and execution are in a blackout. *Preview*: #13#, exp-2*, popcorn, story, actresses, R1.

Even Emile Hirsch is bad in this. And what's with Rachael Taylor, one scene she speaks in English accent and the next she's not? Horrible.

Sure it was bad, but as bad as most people are saying? No. I watched the whole thing, so it must have had something going for it...

I have no idea how they spent so much money making this film with sub syfy channel effects and acting without even the redeeming features of having any kind of interesting premise.

Proof of concept if anything. The dialogue and characters are mostly what weigh it down. Kinda fun at first, but not at all of fan of the climax where it morphs into an action film. I’d love if the concept was reimagined by a better writer.

Mostly-invisible alien life-forms that look strangely like Sweet Tooth from the Twisted Metal video games sans the face-paint, which incinerate nameless Russian actors. Once again, I believe this is proof-positive of how forgiving I am towards the Sci-Fi genre. I thought it was going along at a decent-enough pace for much of the movie. It was alright, I can't say I wasn't enjoying myself as least somewhat. Then, yeah, the last 20 minutes or so happened. It was still an okay flick with decent 3D.

It kept reminding of a video game, without the literacy.

not a bad alien invasion movie at all.. lots of plot holes and the acting is horrible but effects are not bad...entertaining to watch

It didn't turn me off, but it didn't turn me on either. You saw the movie in the trailer. Nothing extra jumped out of the story or special effects other than what you saw there.

I'm not sure why all the low ratings. I enjoyed the movie. It's a story for what happens AFTER the first wave of an attack and how a "resistance" is formed. No, there's no final end , it's a story of how a fight is brought to those who weren't really looking for one. I quite enjoyed the effects and the build of the story. What was also interesting was the fearful, selfish, and stupid people were killed off because of their own weaknesses, and didn't get anyone else killed except themselves.

a guilty pleasure with some pretty damned decent special effects. Silly story with tepid acting are the big flaws.

Not going to lie, the only scene I cracked a smile at was simply finding out Kinnaman was in the flick (I am a total Holder lover). From the stereotypical mother Russians, the aliens stolen from Final Fantasy Spirits Within, and characters that you wish you could strangle just so you could shorten the run time, this just seems like a huge joke that should never have made it to theaters.

Great story, with some incredible turns. Could have better CGI for some elements.

This movie is silly.

9 points for emile hirsch. 1 point for max minghella. everything else has no point.

It is not horrible but it also does not pace itself well and very little happens in the way of action other than some cool lighting effects. The invisibility factor was a way to save on the budget but it also hurt the film. It is not well acted even though there are talented actors sprinkled among the cast they have all done far better work. Its enjoyable to an extent if you are looking for surface level characterization and a poorly developed script. Otherwise it is very much skippable.

While not up there as one of the best apocalypse films its certainly very original and enjoyable to watch.

So ridicolously generic, with the laziest monster in the history of horror movies and some of the worst effects I've ever seen.

Piss-poor.
