The movie is obviously not good - below average dialogue, directing, and character development. However, the subject it is based on, the Darwin Awards, saves it from being a complete catastrophe as it depicts some of the most famous Darwin cases, coupled with a somewhat interesting view over the motivation and character of the people, who were awarded with a recognition of having died in the most stupid way. Thumbs up.

Some undeniably hilarious vignettes depicting the most famous Darwin Award cases are catastrophically destroyed by the alarmingly unfunny, amateurish, not to mention embarassing performances of Ryder and Fiennes in the story that strings the good stuff together; the direction and writing are so misjudged in these sections, it is almost impossible to recouncile that the same person created the modestly superb moments sprinkled throughout. A misfire, but worth the sludge to get to the good stuff.

There's a kernel of potential quality contained somewhere in the screenplay; the rocket car and Metallica concert segments play out reasonably well. But Taylor's direction everywhere else is beyond incompetent, especially in any scene involving Fiennes, who himself puts in a god-awful performance. I've been curious about this movie for a while now, and only really watched it to answer the question, "How does one make a movie out of the Darwin Awards?" The answer is one probably shouldn't.

a wonderful story of love and stupidity, this is not one from 06 to ignore. it may well be out of the blockbuster acclaim, but it is not one to miss. too many great actors, and the writing is too good to pass up.

Disappointing. I expected more from a film with Winona Ryder. The acting was mediocre. The effects were poor. The plot could have been good, but wasn't. It ended poorly.

You can feel the filmmakers patting themselves on the back from start to finish, but the dialogue is boring, the characters are uninteresting, as well as annoying and the direction is uninspired.

Although I might be rating this one higher than it deserves, after having just seen it, I honestly wanted to watch it again. It's very enjoyable, and I think it will remain in my to-watch circulation for many years to come. It's not spectacular, but just a good, solid watch, something to have playing when you're working on a project, or when you just need a good movie to sit back and relax to. The casting was great, and the characters remain interesting throughout. I highly recommend this flick.

Funny, but odd. Normally I love odd movies and would've rated this one higher, but something was off I couldn't put my finger on it.

Quirky. Funny only so long as you realize that the absurd situations are pulling from real events.

A horrible script that goes nowhere, horrible cliched characters, horrible acting, horrible impossible dialogues. Pretentious. I can't even imagine something as painful as watching this movie, it's not even good in a "bad movie" kind of way. It's just painful. A black spot on the filmography of everybody involved and my first absolute 0 in criticker.

Not a single sympathetic character in the whole movie. Depth ranging all the way from tracing paper to corrugated cardboard. Also, almost every shot is terminally conservative, feels like they were composed by the real world production crew.
