The Day Time Ended

I love the grand, enormous ideas this movie gestures at, but ultimately, it's a pile of nothing but gestures. So many things happen, but none of them add up to anything. The zooming ships, the glowing pyramid, the weird little ship, the geometric formations in the sky - there's so many spectacular things these could link to, but they just kind of don't. And once the (lovely) stop-motion monsters show up, it becomes clear that they're not gonna. Fun as spectacle, disappointing as anything else.

Promises, promises. And yet time just keeps dragging along.

Very low budget stuff & moves at a bit of a plod, but it changes up its varying sci-fi phenomena often enough to keep things interesting. None of it adds up in the end, and its unforeshadowed utopian ending is hilarious. But if you're like me, this stuff is worth a look for the tidbits of creativity you see on display. The stop-motion animation is by Dave Allen (The Howling, Ghostbusters 2, Willow).

There's a bit of pseudo-science babble involving Einstein's theory of relativity to justify the events in this movie. The best testament to relativity is that this 80 minute flick felt at least three times longer than Red Cliff. It cannot even be ironically enjoyed.

Some potentially interesting UFO horror is drowned out by the absolute hodgepodge of ideas and events thrown at the screen. Does any of this make sense? Was there any attempt to do so? Time WILL slow to a crawl while watching though, so at the very least it's not titled wrong.

A bunch of terrible special effects just thrown together without anything resembling a plot. MST3K: 80
