Dismissible. Too silly for a thriller, too dull for camp.

Nefarious piece of pro-dolphin propaganda that portrays them as innocent and trusting children of the sea. The idea that dolphins wouldn't jump at the chance to assassinate the President of the USA is laughable. Given such an opportunity they would doubtless use it to strike the first blow in the coming war against humanity.

By god does this take a long time to get going. 105 minutes long and it should be maybe 60 minutes long. Not odd enough for an oddity and too odd for mainstream

In some ways, THE DAY OF THE DOLPHIN is one of the weirdest films Hollywood ever released: a straight drama about a dolphin who learns to speak and is kidnapped to carry out an assassination--starring George C. Scott as its beloved trainer. But the plotting is so muddled--we never know just WHO is behind the plot--that even the obvious sincerity of the filmmakers doesn't save it. But there are some lovely moments, thanks to William A. Fraker's cinematography and Georges Delerue's haunting score.
