Astoundingly horrible. Perhaps one of the worst movies ever made. Jaden Smith delivers maybe the shittiest acting performance I've seen. Did he write the script, too? There isn't a single redeeming feature that I can find. This piece of garbage represents nearly everything that is wrong with big American studio films.

Great special effects, but lacklustre performances and dialogue make for a pretty wretched movie. Jaden Smith's character was so egregiously annoying and needlessly antagonistic that I gritted my teeth every time he opened his mouth. The environmentalism aspect of the plot was terribly shoehorned in, and it blew my mind that tenured astrobiologists and seasoned Secretaries of Defense didn't bother to parse Klaatu's sentences, or even ask him what he meant when he said he was here to save Earth.

Always moving slow and full of repetitive and annoying dialogue between a deadpan Reeves and a useless Connelly. The film ignores the global scale of the picture, misses out on delivering some real awe-inspiring effects sequences, dodges potential horror elements, and fails with its message. Instead the writers and filmmakers settle for, "Ok, man cries and has an emotional side and deserves a second chance." Please- come here with a real agenda or at least make a big, entertaining popcorn movie.

The traillers and all the commotion about this movie looked really great and that's why I really wanted to see this one, but what a letdown it is.. I thought it would be much more exciting than what we've seen here. The film just couldn't entertain me, couldn't really interest me. Reeves playes his role good, but I think that has to be the best about the whole movie.. The best thing about this movie were all the advertissements before it. Once you enter the cinema, the magic is over..

outside of the semi-stupid rendition of the original plot, it is an average movie. the robot could have been done much better, and jaden smith is lacking in his acting capabilities. one of the major plot developments is keanu's changing of his mind about destroying the world, and that is one of the biggest let downs of the movie. all-in-all a pretty watchable, but not above average movie.

Not explaining the plot usually ends up in disaster and this is no exception. This one crucial problem affects the movie like a domino effect. Civilization is meant to be ending yet you can't really get drawn in as you still don't know why its happening. When the world is potentially becoming an apocalyptic wasteland and you find yourself not caring, you know something has gone wrong. Due to the previous reasons, nothing can really shine, so don't go holding your breath for a wow moment as it ju

Reeves' emotionless acting style is perfect for this part, Smith is annoying, and the rest of the cast is pretty forgettable. The American government led by Bates (WTF?) was cartoonishly evil and stupid, but I suppose I should be use to that from Hollywood by now. The overall message of the story is so roll your eyes preachy I expected they would be casting Al Gore instead of Reeves for the lead...which might have actually worked out now that I think about it.

Terribly heavy-handed retelling of the original tale. Though I agree with the message, that humanity on a whole is far too wasteful with the planet, it's handled so poorly that it makes you simply not care. I suppose it's intended for a Blockbuster audience and that's why the message is so obviously delivered. But still, to anyone expecting a movie beyond special effects you are sorely in for disappointment. Oh and it features one of the most annoying step-sons ever.

You can take Keanu Reeves out of the Matrix, but you can't make him act out of it. Jaden Smith, on the other hand, proves that he actually does have some talent for acting, but it always comes at times when he isn't speaking and appears off-screen.

Keanu is well-cast, I guess, as the emotionless alien, but this is an unnecessary and inferior remake. I would praise it for at least updating the "message" , but that message is so vague and toothless, and ultimately is so drenched in such saccharine baseless optimism that the film seems really pointless and phony. Also, Jaden Smith's character, on which the drama of this feature largely depends, is so poorly acted and so poorly written that the film feels even more painful and implausible.

For the first hour or so I was wondering why this got so much hate. It's far from perfect but it's a reasonable update of a Sci-Fi classic and apart from some genre cliches works pretty well. As it approaches the climax, however, things begin to fall apart as the film's internal logic disappears and the entire point of the film is put aside for retarded allusions to humanity's capacity for love.

Huge let down , the trailer looked great but the movie was total crap. The acting was ok , and Reeves plays an non-emotional alien in a acceptable way. But the screenplay was crap and there was just something wrong with it, one scene followed another one with no sense at all. And the turning point for Reeves character was very lame. Another thing , try to count all the brands you can see. can anyone say Product placement ?

A poor, unsatisfying remake. The charming alien/boy relationship from the original is replaced with sparkless enmity here between Reeves and Smith that made me wonder why the kid was included at all. And Reeves is made out as more of an icy assassin for most of the film, a sad substitute for the mysterious nobility Michael Rennie showed in the original. The new Gort is impressive, but they ruin that too, in the third act. I need to go meet up with an alien buddy of mine, see you at McDonald's.

Keanu escaping interrogation is worth the ticket alone. It's early in the movie, and after a pretty solid set-up to the film it's a badass sequence. Then things go off the rails a bit -- not so badly as to make the movie an unenjoyable mess, but most of the action is listless and the effects are subpar. BRIGHT LIGHT AND FOG, OH MY! ...it's just not enough. The message, which will no doubt be written off as too preachy, is handled well and redeems the movie. Weak ending though. Needs more Cleese.

Keanu Reeves as an alien, Will Smith's son and world domination all rolled into one...sounds badass doesn't it? Well, don't get your hopes up. Although this cliche' remake of the 50s sci-fi cult classic is decent in the fields of entertainment, it gets slow, preachy, clogged and repetitive pretty fast. Plus, it's terribly predictable (The concept has been done a million freaking times). Still, it's alright.

This film is just kinda there, there's nothing particularly foul about it, yet it manages to be completely uninspiring. Jaden Smith has a long way to go before he can fill his daddy's shoes, so let's leave him offscreen until he has a better shot at it. Also, how many more times will I get to see a slimy naked recently birthed adult Keanu Reeves before I die? I hope it's AT LEAST a half dozen.

Impressive special effects, and Keanu was okay, but ultimately a failure of a movie. Terrible characters (especially that kid!), annoying Michael Bay-esque obsession with the military, and a plot with huge holes coupled with an abrupt ending. The product placement (Windows! LG! Slower, and less interesting than the original. Gort was tragically replaced with a fog of tiny metal locusts, which is as exciting as it sounds. They've weakened the story, the dialog is lame, and even the military is uncharacteristically militant in serene situations. This movie's premise is that we are significant enough to determine the fate of the planet, when the reality is we are not significant and life on earth will go one even after we drive ourselves to extinction.

And 20 points whenever scientist and military personel have an IQ less than 40. There is something to say about how this movie begins. Some serious intrigue and tension is built for those unaware of the original. You know, I can understand the desire to remake The Day the Earth Stood Still... I really can. The original film had a great concept, it's stood the test of time, and the temptation to revisit it with today's visual effects must have been overwhelming. Well, after seeing a "school play" of the same story, I have to say this big, big money version is not much more improvement for the remake. If the idea was marv in 1951, nowadays it's just childish. Cylon effects are loaded with cliches and the script does not give any room for actors. Check instead Constantine for an interesting Keanu Reeves scifi flick.

Nie jest to najlepszy film Scotta Derricksona (patrz: The Black Phone (2021), Sinister (2012), Doctor Strange (2016) czy nawet The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)) ale jako reboot tak kultowego tytułu, poradził sobie nawet znośnie. Well-intentioned remake (new term for you) is watchable but ultimately failed. The basic plot retains the same pacifist message as in 1951 but unfortunately this thing has studio tinkering written all over it, a shame since Derrickson did such a fine job with 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose'. John Cleese is the smartest one here, he comes out of nowhere, says three lines and is never heard from again: Easiest paycheck ever. Aliens should wipe us once and for all just for inventing product placement.

There's a lot you can hate here, but really, it's pretty standard blockbuster stuff and that's not so bad. Keanu fits, I like Connelly, and it kept me entertained for the hour and 35 minutes. You could pick apart the script (there are some awful lines), and you could pick apart how hamfisted the message is or you could just enjoy the ride because it at least gives you that and special effects/visuals.

Fairly mediocre. The science was actually probably improved over the original, and I enjoyed the method of destruction. But then, it lacked a lot of the sentimentality of the original. Also, Jaden feels more like a jumble of cliches than an actual character. And did anyone else notice the Earth didn't actually stand still in this one? Not that bad, if you just take it as a chase film about a hot science woman and a mysterious ill guy being hunted by army dudes. Actually it's a lot like The Incredible Hulk in that sense. But if you consider that this is a remake of a seminal sci-fi piece of film history, and that this is the best a modern film-maker with $100 million could come up with, then you just have to weep. I like how the military tries to destroy a robot which is capable of destroying entire cities despite already knowing that it only reacts to Klaatu's danger. Stays mildly interesting for a surprisingly long time, thanks to the most unlikely of saviours: Keanu Reeves in his most effective role, as the genuinely eerie Klaatu, an alien on a mission. For the rest it's a clumsily handled remake, who's updated-for-the-new-millennia eco-message is just as naive as the original. Too many elements don't mix well, like Connelly and Will Smith's kid, the whole mountain climber intro and the fact that human emotion apparently equals saving the environment.

I'm not going to include John Cleese as he was awesome for the small role he had, but everyone else except for Reeves was awful. At least Kathy Bates kept her clothes on.
