It's like someone put the absolute best special effects in the absolute worst movie.

An amateur production, it does suffer from faults, but not only is it still enjoyable but it has flashes of inspiration.

Saved by its simplicity. Monsters killing people. People being killed by monsters. Brilliant in its own little way.

Let's just say, not unkindly, that the limited budget shows, and leave it at that; I'd still like to praise the work of McKeown and his effects team for the lovingly designed and appropriately grotesque creature at the heart of it all, plus the fantastic ending shot, which made it all worthwhile. It was, in its way, a charming reminder that film history is littered with a lot more also-rans than success stories, but that their dreams are no less inspiring. And I saw their movie 30 years later.

Impressive (or at least amusing) effects/gore but absolutely nothing going on scriptwise.

A very low-budget creature-feature by an amateur filmmaker (I checked out what Douglas McKeown was doing after this film, and the most info I saw was about him being gay), 'for 25000$' (yes, this one of those stories you start telling strangers you met in the bar after a drink or two). The story and acting are crap, but very well done special effects are impressive enough to recommend this film to all trashy film enthusiasts. I must point an attention at the artistry of the fake blood splashing.

This is one of those 80s monster movies that is actually inspired on a certain level; the creatures are outrageously ugly and kind of fun. It could have been better but sadly, as with most low-budget creature features, the production standards are appalling, and the director and the actors are amateurs.

Amusingly bad.

Some great creature and gore effects, a fun 80s style and brilliant use of the theramin, which is undoubtedly the greatest instrument ever, makes 'The Deadly Spawn' an enjoyable watch. Pacing problems hold it back from being a classic. Ending was hilarious.

The creatures are interesting although they kind of remind me of penises with teeth. The acting is pretty much what you'd expect from a movie like this, still the young boy in the film is extra terrible. The gore effects are cheap but fun, the pacing is a little too slow but not terrible. It an entertaining enough movie for what it is.

Brilliantly bad film-making! Definitely worth a rewatch with friends and alcohol!

Hope no important brain cells were killed in the watching. Some goofy trash to get us through the monotony of life.

Was much more low budget and shitty than I first expected. There are some decent things about this movie, but acting definitely ain't one.

Of all the low-budget 80s horror flicks with cozy homemade special effects and hilariously awkward scripts, this is certainly one of them.
