There were so many people involved and they all seemed to want to make a different movie. It may have ended up being an interesting movie, but I think I'm glad it didn't happen. This documentary film itself is alright. It gives you all the information you need, but it did lack a certain professionalism. I kinda wish the director had removed himself from being in the film. Also, that Jon Peters guy is a goddamn nutball.

Decent fun, but I was constantly reminded of "Jodorowsky's Dune" which is way better. Also am not sure if Burton's Superman needed to be made at all.

Interesting look into the Hollywood machine, but... As if Superman the character wasn't dull enough as it is, this supposed reimagining was apparently 5% ideas and 95% weird-for-weird's-sake set design. (Which probably explains something about Burton's career.) I swear they spend 45 minutes on the suit alone. What hath "Jodorowsky's Dune" wrought? Are we going to see documentaries about every crap movie never made?

Tons of fun and interesting as an indictment of the Hollywood Studio System. After everything is said and done though, I still find it hard to believe the movie would have been any good.

Too much time is spent on the mechanics of costume creation, but this is a great peek behind the curtain at what kind of things go on in the pre-production stage when blockbuster production costs are at stake. Too many cooks spoil the broth as multiple executive types (esp Jon Peters, fertile w/ bad ideas) start tossing in ideas that range from potentially interesting to WTF godawful. From what's described here, we were spared yet another Burton f-ck-up w/ only production design to recommend it

Might have been a sick movie.

An incredibly insightful and entertaining documentary surrounding one of the biggest attempts in Hollywood history. It makes the film and the politics surrounding is so interesting and easy to understand, but most importantly it brings you over to the side that really wants to see this film made.

Moderately entertaining but Smith alone in his Evening with presentation is funnier and more enlightening.

The Death of "Superman Lives" is an incredibly pleasing and fascinating documentary. Kevin Smith, Tim Burton, Jon Peters & many others behind the scenes give interesting and insightful interviews. And the concept art and pre-production design for this project just blew my mind with the torment of what could have been. I honestly don't know if Tim Burton's take on Superman would have been a success, but it definitely would have been unlike any other version that we have ever, or will ever see.

R.I.P. Jon Schnepp. this was surprisingly interesting. the editing helped that. and lucky that most of the people he interviewed were interesting. i wanna rewatch it again just for the art. i hope burton somehow gets to make this movie one day

A pleasing collection of interviews and production material on the infamous Tim Burton Superman project, but lacks the scope of a better documentary like Jodorowsky's Dune; about the most interesting detail is how they solved the suit malleability issues, if you're into industry design, that might pike your interest.

An interesting doc about what could have been, but honestly? Looking at the slate of superhero movies that came out around the time Superman Lives would have, maybe it's for the best that it was buried.

I'm not a comicbook guy, so I never knew about Superman Lives. But now that I've seen this documentary about the pre-production of Tim Burton/Nicolas Cage's Superman.... I WANT TO SEE IT!!! When you look at what kind of movies Warner Bros was releasing at the time... fuck them for shutting this one down!
