Lugosi in super hammy mode while a gigantic fake bat, emitting a bizarre siren sound, is thrown at a cast of horrible actors. What more could one need?

Compared to some of Bela Lugosi's "efforts" I've been catching of late, this one was relatively entertaining. They should put his essence in axe body spray, wreak havoc on the douchebros ;)

Score is meaningless. Essential viewing for Lugosi fans, and a colossal waste of time for everyone else.

I've mentioned my love of puppets several times in my mini-reviews, and this is no exception. Painted balls of fur masquerading as bats are thrown haphazardly through windows in a simulation of flight, subjected to electricity, and thrown at tired actors with the force of a fat kid playing wiffle ball. A golden age of movie magic. It's also sort of a shitty movie.

There's no earthly reason for a man named "Paul Carruthers" to have Lugosi's accent. Also features, quite possibly, the most lame way to murder people in cinema history

Hang the bosses or attack them with bats. Either way

Despite featuring what is arguably the cheapest looking "creature" in B-movie history (in any of the scenes involving Lugosi - & there are several - it's brazenly fake & no attempt is made to hide it) & couple of awful actors (esp the editor) this is watchable if you're in the right mood. The script isn't bad at all: the villain - surprisingly for the time period - isn't overtly evil & is almost always smart enough to hide his plans. There's also the hero & his pal who are light but likeable.

Have you ever been so annoyed with your employer that you create a devil bat to kill them? Well, Bela Lugosi is that guy. However, the highlight for me is not Lugosi, but rather Dave O'Brien as the wise-cracking reporter who saves the day. For the record, the noise the devil bat makes as it attacks its victims is ridiculous, to say nothing of its flight patterns. If you're a chiropterologist, even an amateur, I'd avoid watching this as it will just infuriate you.

Lugosi's able to sleep walk through a by the numbers script. The prop bats are what really holds it back from being mediocre to just plan bad. Needs more french maids and less... everyone else.

Somewhat entertaining mostly due to Bela Lugosi's bemused expression throughout the entire film.

One of Lugosi's livelier PRC outings.

O Morcego Diabólico estreava há 80 anos nos EUA. O Bela Lugosi deu um jeito bacana de se livrar de sanguessugas capitalistas: gigantes morcegos assassinos atraídos por loção pós-barba. Box Obras-primas do Cinema Berla Lugosi.

Not a great film by any stretch but still highly enjoyable for Lugosi's brilliant overacting, the presence of "One-Shot McGuire," and the devil bats. The special effects are highly dated by now, but I can't imagine the bats (the models, not the stock footage) were that bad for 1940 given technical limitations, and it's certainly fun watching them attack people today. Worth a viewing.

Excellent no-budget weirdness with a completely unhinged Lugosi tying it all together.

Loved the laboratory stuff, but this was a tame bat from hell....
