In the first portion of this film, it is possible for the viewer to allow themselves to be carried along, but as it progresses it becomes sillier and sillier in a rather incredible way, to the point of utter absurdity. And the dialogue is not strong enough to permit the viewer to accept the absurdity.

The entire movie is decent up until Al Pacino's near monologue towards the end. At this movie the movie becomes really good. Keanu Reeves doesn't deliver a great performance, as I don't think he's a great actor, but he does give us a good performance. Al Pacino as the charming, funny and sexy Lucifer incarnite is absolutely amazing.

I just didn't get this at all. Pacino basically yells a lot and spouts off one-liners, and Keanu Reeves just kind of stands there devoid of emotion (and acting). And there's boobs. And I guess Pacino is really the devil and stuff happens and Keanu Reeves is a lawyer doing stuff in a courtroom. The End.

I will always defend this movie and Keanu Reeves in it. Now I don't want to come to it's aid just to play...uh...what's the phrase again?...It's when you don't fully believe what you're saying...people do it all the time with John Travolta...ah, forget it.

There is a point in every person's life where they are tested. Tempted. Pulled from the right path. Nothing is more universal. Nothing more apt to change a person. To make them strong or break them down. At this moment, we all ask ourselves the same question, "Do I bang my sister to summon the anti-christ?" Obviously the answer is LOOK DON'T TOUCH! TOUCH DON'T TASTE! You know, stuff we all deal with. Universal problems. Well, now I'm off to go hang out with my horse themed wife, Mare.

A very literal take on a very tired cliche about lawyers. In a way, a ripoff of the mediocre Angel Heart from ten years before, but even worse.

It has some damn good scenes and great potential. Keanu Reeves acts like someone who has only a vague idea of what acting should be (as usual), which ruins it somewhat. Some scenes are excellent and creepy, and Al Pacino and Charlize Theron do a swell job. Not as good as it could be, but still a good film.

The Good: Al Pacino plays the devil, which was bound to happen eventually. Also, I'm lovin' the fact that Keanu Reeves is the son of satan and carries the seed of the antichrist in his nutsack. Poetic justice doesn't get any better. The Bad: Well, no matter how you slice it, Keanu Reeves has once again been given another shot to validate his claims to be a real actor. Once again, he fails. The Ugly: The only thing worse than Keanu Reeves' acting, is his vomitous attempt at a southern accent.

Welcome to Al Pacino's school of overacting. This is a pretty dull supernatural thriller with Keanu Reeves as an equally dull star of the movie. Very pedestrian religious symbolism and hokey plot. Worth a viewing to ogle Charlize Theron and Pacino completionists but that's about it.

Keanu Reeves' presence in this movie kept me from watching it long ago, even with Al Pacino to attract me. Also sites like this and imdb led me to think it would be mediocre, but I have to say against the odds and against the opinion of most discerning movie-watchers I think this film is awesome. It's tense and thrilling and viscerally disturbing when it wants to go there and the screenplay is intellectually intriguing. Al Pacino does some of his best work here with some great monologues

Favourite part: Reeves being confronted with his immoral law-talking guy behaviour, and the big example is him making arguments for religious freedom that don't give christianity a truth content and moral status different from other religions; the slippery slope to hell starts there, obviously. Which follows from the film's premises, of course, but many these days would hesitate to make that so explicit because of it being so obviously horrible, as well as emphasising the theological stupid.

Entertaining enough. Am I the only one who noted a slight bias against lawyers...? No? Probably just me then. So: A bit of mystery, a bit of court room drama, a bit of supernatural soap... Al Pachino is clearly enjoying the shit out of himself, but Keanu's face remains stoically unimpressed. Great for a Sunday afternoon, but the appeal fades when one realizes just what a movie it could've been, if it had been written and directed by Roman Polanski.

Taylor Hackford has crafted a career of "Okay you're gonna see Debra Winger's hooters / you're gonna see Theron's hooters" etc and whoever writes the cheques going "Fiiiiiiiiiine" When this started I said to myself "This is going to end with a Rolling Stones song and YEP.

A film that isn't challenging whatsoever. Everything is obvious and far too predictable. The script isn't very good, but it seems like the actors gave it their best. For the majority of the movie, you're watching shiny keys being dangled in front of your face, and it drags on and on. Pacino was fun to watch and that's about it.

A gloriously campy and over-the-top adult fairy tale, with Pacino's snickering scenery-chewing perfectly matched by Reeves' deceptively brilliant performance; his decision to play completely straight grounds the film, balances Pacino and brings a much needed weight and authority. Theron also scores strongly in a role echoing Hamlet's Ophelia. Arguably doesn't quite stick the landing, but otherwise so much fun, it's really not worth complaining.

Pacino chews and devours scenery with great gusto, which is pretty enjoyable, provided that you don't think about all the great, nuanced performances he's delivered in the past. The rest is just ok - Reeves is bland, the story is paced well but not very intriguing, there are a few decent shocks and scares but no sustained terror.

A lawyer meets The Devil. You might think that they'd find a decent resolution to this scenario. They don't. A lot of talented people here devoted a lot of time and money to creating a tale of the supernatural that's really quite silly. Taylor Hackford should be put on time-lapse-photography restriction

Sort of a _Rosemary's Lawyer_, this provides Pacino with a fiendish field day as a literal attorney from hell (then again, whence else does the breed hail?). While overlong, overproduced, and frequently formulaic, Hackford and Lemkin's adaptation of Neiderman's novel is executed with enough wit and flair to rate as the best entry in the late-'90s spate of fallen-angel-themed fright films. Reeves, as the young hotshot Florida lawyer, wisely abstains from competing with Pacino
