The Devil's Brigade

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, realism and historical accuracy are held to a high standard in war movies in the 21st century. Even at the time that "The Devil's Brigade" came out, it wasn't pushing the envelope, and moreover, it came out just after "The Dirty Dozen" which is better in every way possible. But if you've got a hankering for an old war flick, you could choose worse, by all accounts this one is extremely run-of-the-mill.

I really just don't like old movies.

Fairly average but still entertaining.

It takes a long time with the training at the barracks which i suppose you could argue creates more empathy for the characters once they go into battle but with such standard characters you'd be wrong. The action itself is also pretty standard and lacks the heightened sense of danger and excitement it should have. There's something to knowing this was a historic unit but i think a book would have been more gripping than this very typical 60s war film.

Like a cheap version of Dirty Dozen.
