A comedy which harkens back to the golden days of Billy Wilder films. I think it's so funny because, even with the fallback of the stupidest guy in Paris to amuse us, Veber never resorts to slapstick or idiot humour. All the jokes are things that could happen to you or me in real life - unfortunate accidents, really. Everybody likes to think that he or she is not an idiot, and therefore identifies with Pierre. Veber then pulls the rug out by making us fall for the lovable buffoon. A classic.

As I was watching this I couldn't help think about people who have said this is the funniest movie of all time and just how fucking dumb and misguided they are. Made me smile a few times but no laughs were had. Not as witty as it thinks it is and its predictable as hell. Felt like more of a bad sitcom then a film. But to be fair, it was better than the remake!

Recently remade as the destined-to-never-be-a-classic Dinner for Schmucks, I went into this with low expectations. But it has a decent reputation and it's short, so I took the risk. My bad. Exasperating and charmless, not a single laugh to be had. There are a couple of clever twists in the story, but nothing especially surprising. I think I'd rather see the Carrell/Galifianakis version.

This is the #1 Ranked movie in all my rankings. There is no funnier movie in my opinion. And the comedy is absolutely preserved in the subtitling. The story is about how an idiot completely screws up the life of a guy who invited him to a party to have some fun at his expense.

French farce/dramedy. This is a well acted film with some interesting ideas that never really get fully explored. I didn't find the level of humour that sophisticated or particularly amusing, beyond the energetic facial expressions. They had the opportunity to do something smart with the ending but sadly it's rather rushed and doesn't do the concept justice. Perfectly watchable, but it just feels a bit dated in this era, although it would probably be a killer stage play.

It's been a long time since I laughed for so long. Admittedly, some of the laughter was that uncomfortableness of making fun of -- well, an idiot. Even though it's mostly the same joke over and over, it doesn't overstay its welcome.

Quite well acted and has some funny moments. It's dialog/action paced so the movie feels like half an hour long. Overall an average comedy with some bright moments.

A very funny comedy, it is a filmed play but works very well, the characters and acting are spot on

The farcical screenplay is far from the definition of finesse, as it moves in a rather familiar, generic area of comedy and wears its symbolisms on its forehead. Still, it remains pretty enjoyable thanks to the convincing acting and the small duration. Yet the ending is that sort of unbelievably clichéd, shout-at-the-screen-inducing resolution that you'd expect would only appear on the Hollywood remake as a sacrilege to the more sophisticated French original. Well... sophisticated my ass.

It is funny but not hilarious. It is slightly warm but not educational, luckily. According to some reviews there are a lot of puns and humor can be only understood by French speakers. I guess I could get much more enjoyment if I was a Frenchman.

I was more than half way through before I remembered I was watching a comedy, well what they tell me is a comedy. If you can watch a comedy for 40 minutes without spotting a joke or laughing then it's not a comedy

"spoiler" adam aldatıldığı için kibrit çöpleri ile uğraşmıyor, salak olduğu için aldatılıyor ve salak olduğu için kibrit çöpleri ile uğraşıyor. olayı duygusallaştırıp "insanlık" mesajı vermek adına film kendi kurgusu ile çelişmiş.ek olarak karakterişlemesi çok iyi, burjuva karakter atmosferden iyi gibi görünmesine rağmen kötü bir karakter olarak çizilmiş.

Arguably a script better suited for the stage, but still downright hysterical. The sympathetic performances keep what would typically be unbearable and distasteful, sublime and real.

Old-fashioned, stagey farce with a sharp, rapid-fire script. Villeret is endearing but I expected more laughs than this.

Had a tough time ranking this one. It's undoubtedly funny, sharp and very concise, but parts of it left a bad taste in my mouth. There were times when I felt like I was laughing at Pignon when I didn't want to be. I wanted to be laughing at Brochand getting his comeuppance, because he really is an unlikeable character - but damn, then Pignon does something else idiotically funny and I'm laughing at that instead. I wanted more karmic justice for Pignon at the end, but it just doesn't happen.

Awkward humour isn't really my thing, but the innocence of Pignon just makes it so hard not to like. I did think the sudden contrast at the end was a little forced and cliched, but yeah, comedy's good, acting's great and overall, and it's all just silly fun.

Yeah, it's a completely one-note film, but at about 80 minutes, it comes and goes at such a frenetic pace that you don't really realize until after the movie's over that there hasn't been any worthwhile exposition. One of the funniest movies I've seen, really.

First time I watched this the unending sequence of stupid actions made by the characters made me uncomfortable. This time, though, I was able to appreciate the absurdity of the whole thing and laugh along and as the idiot did stupid thing after stupid thing and he kept getting chances to continue. It helps that while the characters are compelling they aren't particularly likable, so you don't feel too bad when they make bad decisions.

Reaches far, for a one joke film. However, in the end it gets into a routine - each time Pignon tries to help, he makes more trouble. Thankfully, film runs only for 80 minutes, and ends before it gets annoyingly repetitive. Acting is very good. Jacques Villeret has a charisma you can't ignore, and he totally steals the show.

Decent humor throughout (though if I watched sitcoms, I would have been bored), and the poignant ending hit me deep. A lot more foul language than I'd have liked.
