Meandering drama does provide a rich, authentic feel for 30s/50s Spain (though Ferrer feels oddly out of place and time) and has an incredibly beguiling and charismatic performance by Garcia at its core, but ultimately bites off a little more than it can chew, and rather oddly indulges in that great 90s cliché of a climactic chase with waving guns down shadowy corridors, a simplistic move given the complexity that has come before it.

AKA "Death in Granada". Interesting story, though apparently the details of Lorca's disappearance is based very little on history; and the ending was pretty contrived. The portrayal of Spain during the Franco regime is very realistic. The biggest disappointment is learning afterwards that the poem which is quoted extensively in a political context, involving the repeated line "at five in the afternoon", is actually a lament over a bullfighter who was gored to death in the ring.
