Tries to be risque (and it should be with the plot outline) but fails badly, drowned in a sea of stilted wooden acting and scenes that are simply poor. Some seem to forget the silent era has passed and overact horribly. No.

Kind of tough to rate. The direction is uncredited, and the film seems to suffer from a lack of point-of-view, but part of me thinks that neutrality makes it a little more challenging. Norma Shearer won an Oscar for the part, and if it were a silent film I'd agree.

Maybe this worked a bit better in 1930, but even through the nastiness of the divorce (not Depp-Heard level, of course), you know exactly where this will end up when the movie finishes. This is one of the most "touching" movies -- count how many times somebody grasps somebody else's arms. Shearer plays her part well, but everything else feels very wooden and unnatural. Fav moment: the couple acting like Romeo and Juliet dying while somebody else acts like a boxing referee.

Tem um bom desenvolvimento, mas o final é tão irrealista e medonho. DVD Obras-primas do Cinema Coleção Dose Dupla: Norma Shearer.

Way below its level of notoriety as a pre-code film. As the horrible ending is a natural consequence of the story and not just there to salvage some moral dignity, it makes the whole picture to look even worse. Shearer is charming but disappointingly dull.

It's generally fine but there's not much going on here. The sound isn't great (either due to age or the time it was filmed), and even though I watched it a few hours ago I can't really remember a ton about it. Just a stock plot.

As a vehicle for Shearer, it's pretty great. She gets to display a wide range of emotional and social interaction. As a story, I kind of hate it, the failing of the marriage falling entirely on her, her ex acting haughty about it the entire time even though he started the unfaithfulness, and then she crawling back to him. Sure, her marriage to an adulterer is only going to work if she becomes a door mat, but I can't see why I'm supposed to celebrate that.

The ending is somewhat disappointing, although I suppose its natural for 1930.
