Well played rom com in the style of this era. The story of the couple, who dislike each other, being held captive together because of some mistake that has the world convinced (and needing to stay convinced) they are partners is nothing new. Here though it is done with enthusiasm and with some genuinely funny moments putting the hackneyed story device out of your mind. Ignore the low score here and give this one a try. For me it was a very pleasant surprise from a movie I'd never heard of.

What makes The Doctor Takes a Wife (1940) fun is the intentional/unintentional way Ray Milland tries so hard to be Cary Grant (the guy this picture was originally intended for)! Almost a mirror image! Of course this wouldn't have been as lively without Loretta Young doing what she does best. Had it not been for the material being on the average side, this screwball comedy would have been much better known.

If the frivolous touches of emphasised humour weren't there to taint an otherwise enjoyable romantic comedy, a higher score would be well deserved.
