This war drama, set in a snow covered Tyrolean pass during WW I, chronicles a strange situation between an Austrian battalion assigned to guard the snowbound pass and the Italians that plan to blow their position up. The Austrian leader is well aware that the enemy has been digging a tunnel beneath them with the intent to blow them up, but he cannot disobey orders and move. One Austrian, Trenker, slips over Italian lines to learn the exact time of the explosion. (allmovie.com)

Luis Trenker's English speaking version of Berge in Flammen which was released a year earlier. Like those early alt-language films, it mainly uses the same scenery shorts only adding semi-awkward dialogue scenes for the target market. For the most part it's a silent mountain atmosphere piece in a war setting, so not much changed, really. I like Trenker's style, so it doesn't matter what change are made as long as the dialogue doesn't get in the way and it's sot sparse that it doesn't here.
