In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60 year old taxi driver, stole Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. He sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly. What happened next became the stuff of legend. An uplifting true story about a good man who set out to change the world and managed to save his marriage.

This is an intriguing true story and I thought there was some nice gentle comedy present - I liked how Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren acted as husband and wife. Its not an especially memorable film or one I felt entirely engrossed in but its an easy watch and the story is interesting, even if you just sort of skim read it (or, as its a film, skim view it). Not a bad watch, yes I suppose I would recommend it.

The warm and generous depiction of Geordie wit is incredibly accurate. Both Broadbent and Mirren add both a depth and effortlessness to this marvelous British based-on-a-true-story-comedy genre film.

Pretty throwaway, despite solid acting by all involved. It's just really not that interesting of a story--a fun factoid but not a feature length movie. It's like a stodgy answer to Wes Anderson. Reminscent or The Landscapers without the weird artsy experimentation.

Interesting feel good story, although the setting is all very drab. The central performances are outstanding.

When you think of heist films, you typically imagine thieves to be this group of attractive loners that have specific skills that make them perfectly suited for a life of crime. Well, in the film, "The Duke," one of the biggest art heists in modern history is actually perpetrated by one of the most unlikely criminals you could think of. "The Duke" follows the incredible true story of Kempton Bunton, a 60-year-old taxi driver in 1961, who was able to steal a Goya masterpiece from an art

First of all if Roger Michell hadn't directed this movie, Ken Loach should have. What an interesting story. I regret to say that until this age I didn’t know much about Kempton Bunton. However “The Duke” encouraged me to learn more about his life. What can I say about Jim Broadbent's performance? Absolutely great. Very sweet. Also the references to beautiful UK cities like Newcastle, Leeds, Sunderland were great. RIP Kempton Bunton.

Despite its minor flaws, "The Duke" is a delightful and heartwarming film that will appeal to audiences of all ages. With solid performances, entertaining courtroom scenes, and a subtle exploration of grief, it's a perfect rainy day film that your parents and grandparents will likely love.

A good, interesting yarn. Broadbent and Mirren are naturally great but the rest of the cast don't lag behind.
