You can't blame a movie for being exactly what it was only ever going to be. I like the leads. I love the director. I don't really care about the original, and I can appreciate a fine pair of legs. And let me tell you, Burt Reynolds still has incredible legs!

Inoffensively ticks off all the DoH tv series cliches during it's runtime but doesn't really offer any sort of fresh take on the source material. It's a lightweight and safe comedy that's mildly entertaining but fairly forgettable without any scenes that will last in memory unless you're the type that likes to look at Jessica Simpson in her Daisy Dukes!

The only reason anyine would have to watch this film is the faint hope of seeing some boobs, a hope which will not be fulfilled. The lesson here is to stay away from Seann Williams Scott films rated PG-13. It's a more specific version of the lesson to stay away from Seann Williams Scott films.

Someone, somewhere got handed the script for this, saw the people involved, and thought to himself--how the hell am I supposed to get people to ignore how bad this is. The answer was Jessica Simpson's legs.

Is The Dukes of Hazzard a good film? Absolutely, 100% not. Some people might find it funny, but I can't say I was one of those people. It's a loosely plotted, unfunny bore of a film which moves back and forth between not trying to do anything and actively insulting the intelligence of those watching it. If you thought the Starsky & Hutch film was bad, you haven't seen anything yet. The actors are here for the paycheck, and I urge you not to waste your money on this movie.

I knew to expect a silly, lowbrow comedy, and it had its moments, but I still expected better. Jessica Simpson feels cartoonishly incongruous with the down-home, blue-collar milieu toward which the film aimed, and the writers relied too much on puns and its simplistic story and not enough on the film's actual potential (namely Willie Nelson and the silly freeze-frames with Junior Brown's narration). At least it had pretty decent car chases.

Dukes of Hazzard was a vehicle for people to say, "Jesus Christ, Jessica Simpson looks good!" Beyond that it does have some funny moments. It's easy to tell that this movie was made off the success of Super Troopers. It's too bad that much of the humor was just ripped whole cloth from that movie but in reality what does a Dukes of Hazzard movie really bring to the 21st century. It's cute and I've watched it a few times and I'm never overly let down when I watch it. It's good not great.

The widespread hostility to this one is a bit strange – what exactly were you expecting? About as fun and affable as you could hope for with this premise; highlighted by Nelson’s amusing way with silly stand-up gags, and Reynolds' relaxed and silly “villain” performance – inevitably conjures memories of SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT etc. and this outshines most of its 70s era counterparts with its lighthearted and relaxed pacing and appealing characters (Simpson can’t act to save her life, but damn…)

Lame. An unbelievably lazy waste of a potential franchise property. Literally a less compelling story than any one of the original episodes. Blah-blah-blah squealing tires blah-blah-blah jackass. Stithler and and jackass are just not funny in this lame brain paint by numbers affair.

By far the worst part of this film is the Jessica Simpson music video of her singing "These boots were made for walking". Would I personally love to see her wash my car like that? Hell yes. Would I pay good money to not have to listen to her sing that shitty? Even more so.

Lets face it, the original show was no masterpiece. This film however manages to suck out any of the campy hillbillyness and replace it with pretty dopes that are in no way convincing as southern good old boys. The addition of Simpson as walking genitalia seals the fate.

The good, there are some fun car chases. The bad, pretty much everything else. It wasn't really that funny. Nobody is very likable. The plot just doesn't really make much sense. From what I remember of the original series, this felt like a very different tone and didn't fit very well at all. It's just a complete mess.

The humour is insulting, but the car chases are awesome. Any time Scott is behind the wheel of the General Lee the movie is exciting. Considering chase scenes take up half the flick, that's not too bad, but there isn't enough here to recommend. The plot is weak and the acting is unfortunate -- stunt casting really blew up in this movie's face, as Simpson is awful, Nelson looks clueless and Burt Reynolds... well, the less said the better. Bruce McGill would have been an awesome Boss Hogg.

I haven't seen the original series, but the silver screen incarnation strikes exactly the right balance of wit, slap-stick humour, action, story, charm and babes. Dukes is a thoroughly enjoyable film that may seem stupid to some, but if you're into that kind of yeehaw-let's-ride-a-safe-tied-to-the-back-of-a-pickup-truck humour, then you'll love this film.

Big-screen transplant of the hayseed TV comedy circa 1980, a younger cousin of the likes of Smokey and the Bandit. There is thus a sort of rough justice in casting the mummified Reynolds, the one-time Bandit, as an odious backwoods bigwig, a greedy pig named Hogg. One early chuckle -- an audio autobiography of car racer Al Unser, Jr., as read by Laurence Fishburne -- is followed by endless miles of teeth-grinding.

Not much to say about this one. It's as underwhelming and forgettable as you expect it to be, although to its credit it does make a genuine effort to keep things fun and light-hearted throughout. I've never seen the original series so cannot compare it to that, but John O'Brien was also responsible for penning the Stiller/Owen Starsky & Hutch film and that was shit too.
