taly in the 1970s: the perfect time to be working in the horror movie business, because the industry is thriving thanks to Dario Argento and Mario Bava. Editor Rey is so dedicated to his work that even after losing an arm to a freak editing accident, he cuts away at reel after reel of the grotesque, the glamorous, the best of what Italian cinema has to offer. Speculation arises that Rey's commitment may run too deep; gruesome accidents and mishaps mysteriously follow him wherever he goes. (Calgary International Film Festival)

It's debatable whether there is a lot of artistry in distilling the essence from a genre and recreating something very close to it but turning everything up to undici. On the other hand, I definitely enjoyed myself with this; the Astron 6 cast is fun, the slasher-inside-a-slasher concept was cool, the Giallo style (with a hint of Cronenberg!) worked for me, and bonus points for all the unnecessary nudity. Not mindblowing, but will enthusiastically slash your brain with a razor for a while.

I don't get this style of straight-faced parody which is so in love with the object of ridicule that it's simply saying "hey look isn't this ridiculous?! Boobs! Ha ha so great". The other Astron 6 film that I previously tried to watch was Manborg and the only review I gave that was that I could barely make it through the credits

It feels longer than it is, the references are a bit too broad and Paz de la Huerta is as unpleasant to watch as always, but after all that you know what you're getting with The Editor; an Astron 6 film. That's never a a bad thing.

Didn't love this as much as I'd hoped to, but anticipating the hell out of it for a whole year and a half probably didn't help any. It felt like a really fun date with someone I'm just not that into.

Despite being a bit too long for its own joke, The Editor accomplishes what it set out to do. Namely, it pokes fun at all of the conventions and tropes of giallo movies from the 1970s. If you haven't seen any of those, you're still going to have a good time, even if you won't quite "get" everything that the film has to offer. It's funny, it's gory, it's cheesy, and it's a good deal of fun, even if a tighter screenplay would have made for an even better experience.

Like others have said, its pacing gets bogged down leaving you thinking it would be better with a shorter runtime. I enjoyed the tribute to the genre, however about midway i felt that joke was up mostly bc the source material of giallo and italian exploitation was already so exaggerated and ridiculous that anything The Editor did was less parody and more copycat.

A shitty movie about the making of a shitty movie that tries to be a cross between a parody and an homage. Too long for its own good and most of the comedy falls flat. Paz is atrocious as always. There are a few good shots and use of score amidst the uninspired garbage. The film remains somewhat entertaining non the less and the biggest plus is that it made me what to go watch some actual Gialli. Generally it had good gore effects.

If you've seen a lot of older Italian horror movies, you will understand this one.

Not sure why, but modern films shot in an older style like The Love Witch and The Editor just feel off. Maybe it's the fidelity of the picture or the modern props. In any case, at best this film can be called an homage to giallo, at worst there are copycat shots. I agree with others that this was too long. High body count of characters I didn't get to know. The plot was undecipherable and consisted of twists that don't pay off. The effects are great. Fav scene: crawling out from the screen.

Man, this movie is weird. Knowing it's a tribute to Italian slasher horror, I still felt like I was tripping balls. I might have been part of the time, anyway. Liked it though.
