This had all the makings of a classic but was missing all the fun that would make this a little more enjoyable. Luise Rainer was good but William Powell never had a chance to really shine. Ultimately a good but not great spy thriller romance.

William Powell fancies candlesticks. Especially the type with secret departments to hide important messages. So does Luise Rainer, as this becomes a game of spies as to who can get their hands on them first.As much as I wanted to love this, the story was way too incomplete and convenient to become anything more then a average spy romance where nether the love or the dangers of their professions came across satisfyingly. Oh well, it had it's moments. Especially when the searching for the sticks.
