Lacks the straightforward action and simple story that made the first one successful. This sequel attempts to flesh out McCall's character by peppering in a history that was more or less a mystery, but unfortunately the writers failed to come up with a cohesive story. This is in no way equal to the first movie, except Denzel is still a steamy chocolate treat, one that judiciously kills bad guys.

If it has Denzel being all calm and collected just bringing wrath on idiots I will be there. I have no idea how old Denzel is anymore.

The myth of the Taxi Driver has mutated into the passion of the Lyft Sage, a superhuman at peace in both stillness and violence, but without even a pretense of moral justification. I've never seen a more vapid or bleak action redemption story, or one with so many lapses in its logic and foundation. This makes it all the worse when it presents itself as sentimental and smart. The last act makes a fine western set piece, though.

A very slick production with equal parts righteous living and violent killings. It is full of supposedly morally justified murder without consequences or repercussions. Denzel makes a great even-tempered, charismatic and capable vigilante bringing retribution to the victimized. They live in a make-believe world where the bad guys are entirely bad, murders are not investigated, and there are no arrests. The ending was bad, but it was worth watching.

plot forces its way to an abandoned seaside town getting hit by a hurricane so the guys can fight and snipe (yes! In a hurricane!) in it. You get the very distinct impression this dumbass setpiece was the passion all along and the rest of the dumbass movie was stitched together to get an unsuspecting audience to this poorly thought out point. I wouldn't have watched this if it weren't for Denzel and if Denzel weren't Denzel I'd have to say the dude's lost some cred.

A step down from the first movie, which wasn't anything special neither, but at least it had some class. Denzel is no longer semi-autistic bad-ass, just some do-gooder super-assassin Lyft driver. He doesn't get interesting villain either. Completely forgettable action movie. At least it didn't get on my nerves.

Problems with this film: They spelled it Equalizer and not Equaliser. The actor in the close combat scenes is clearly not Denzel. It's too long. Vaguely Hispanic Jeremy Renner is clearly the villain. The Lyft adverts were obnoxious; Uber crew represent

So Denzel saves this girl whose mom owns this bookshop where he ordered In Search of Lost Time because it's the last title on this unspecified 100 greatest books list he's reading through except the one he buys is this single-volume mock-up that can't be more than a thousand pages and you're like what the hell Denzel why you reading a condensed edition that's kinda tacky or maybe they just wanted it in really bad and yep look at that they really did and nope not worth all this stress not at all

Denzel in badass mode is great if he isn’t allowed to ham it up. Alas, the film is directed by Antoine Fuqua, and I haven’t seen all of his movies with Denzel, but I’ve seen Training Day, a film I dislike because Denzel hams it up like an Easter brunch. There were a couple of scenes in this one where I was half-certain McCall was about to proclaim at the top of his lungs that King Kong ain’t got s*** on him. I tolerated these couple of scenes because I like the rest of this film just fin

I enjoyed parts of it more than the first, and parts of it less. The pacing is weak and the movie as a whole is far too long for what it is. There are plenty of moments that are more than a little dumb and/or don't quite make sense, things Denzel doesn't and couldn't possibly account for seeming to be part of his master plan. The tagline "There is no equal" is fucking stupid, as that is kind of the opposite of what the word "equalizer" means.

Disappointingly average and contrived. It's a shame as I've a soft spot for the first, but this muddle of plots and characters inherits very little of what made the original film interesting. It's not without merit and benefits from the simplicity of having Denzel doing his thing, but 'The Equalizer 2' ticks far too many safe boxes.

Far more episodic than the first one, whose story was always focused on McCall's life. Here there are two focuses but they do not intertwine well thanks to some very unbalanced storytelling. Still, great action scenes and one amazing performance from Denzel mid movie!

A Denzel action movie has to work especially hard for me to dislike it, so I still enjoyed this. It's a little better than the first one, but it still suffers from some of the same problems. The final act felt so forced, like they HAD to get it to a place where Denzel could use his surroundings to his advantage, but it felt abrupt. But besides that, a decent action movie and at least we got to see that Denzel intense face that I love.

This one's heart is in the right place, and Antoine Fuqua can keep the tension high like no one else, but The Equalizer 2 feels overlong and ever-so-didactic in comparison to its predecessor.

The Equalizer 2 just like it’s predecessor is just serviceably enjoyable with not much else other than Denzel Washington to boast about. But I like this character and the smaller scale that isn’t trying to be an enormous and outlandish action thriller. There are far too many subplots with some much less interesting than others and the runtime is far too long. But the set pieces are well done and Denzel Washington brings the charisma and star quality to make this a fairly enjoyable experience

Denzel Washington equalizing stuff all over the place, but in this instance he just seems blank rather than grim and determined, the story offers little, and it doesn’t have the benefit of Zack Hemsey’s “Vengeance” to get us all in the mood for some equalizing.

Really contrived. Started promising but just falls apart. Nothing surprising here. Barely any unconventional kills. It's written by an algorithm. The end scene was just hilariously inept from the baddies as they charge one at a time into death and fail to use their leverage properly. First movie was simpler and far more effective.

The Equalizer 2 is just more of what you already expect. Denzel playing the quiet good guy. Bad guys do bad things, Denzel kicks ass. It’s simple, but yet it’s very enjoyable. Denzel’s characterization and relationships with other characters are improved over its predecessor, and having Pedro Pascal as the generic antagonist is a tad more fun. Like its predecessor though, it’s still pretty coherent/dumb in the most typical action movie schlock. However, it does what it sets out to do, again.

Less clever than its predecessor, Equalizer 2 salvages itself with some amazingly shot and edited action sequences. The post-Taken "repentant human weapon" genre may be slightly played out, but The Equalizer 2 is as entertaining as it gets.

Same score as the first one as it is almost the identical film. Super violece for morally justified causes to avenge the death of a friend, Denzel proves once again he is a badass with any weapon available in his immediate surrounding. A solid action movie, genre cliches abound but again Denzel carries the film.

Like Liam Neeson, Washington's too old (& paunchy) to be plausibly kicking a-s so masterfully, but edits & his acting chops make it work. The stakes are more personal this time too but except for the storm-set end, it often feels familiar. The most interesting parts involve his mentorship of a young black guy whom he instructs to stop blaming others for the bad choices he makes, while inexplicably giving him Ta NeHesi Coates' Whites are Still Super Racist book, Between The World & Me.

Hype killed the sequel. This was a major disappointment after the original. It still had some good action sequences but the biggest problem was the predictable story and the poor casting, which didn't help. The performances weren't bad but the casting made the plot obvious.

Retread of Part 1 shaves off most of the interesting aspects of Washington's character, instead being nothing more than another ultra-violent, vaguely distasteful DEATH WISH clone - but as with the first film, Fuqua is a casual master behind the camera (the climactic storm sequence is about the best of its kind since PATRIOT GAMES), and Washington's rock-solid, commanding performance makes his daffy, self-righteous character believable and even relatable (at least in the moment!)

The thing that's wrong with this movie isn't the script which is cliched but serviceable, nor is it the acting with once again while nothing special isn't bad it's the fact that not enough time is spent on Denzel being an equalizer but it spends too much time on international spy crap no one cares about.

Has a severe case of identity crisis; for a large part it is a relaxed character study of Denzel's hitman character and his personal live, with occasional bursts of action related to that. But into that a more convoluted spy-murder plot is inserted, which takes over the movie near the end. Doesn't help that the most obvious suspect actually is the culprit. The action is enjoyable but less stylized than in the first. That this sequel still is very watchable is thanks to Denzel extreme charisma.
