The Evening Star

Brazenly manipulative and heavy handed drama essentially trades on memories of 'TERMS...' and coasts for a while on the natural chemistry of its cast of heavy hitters - it's a credit to all that writing that wouldn't pass muster in a bad sitcom is made palatable by this first-rate cast. The emotional climaxes eventually build up to diminishing effect and the film becomes overlong and tiresome; mega star wattage from its 'Special Guest Cameo' in the third act is almost worth hanging in there for.

I had high hopes for this one, but it just seems forced. There are some good moments, but it gets a little too melodramatic and unbelievable at times.

Where the first film was sad at times, this one is persistently depressing. And what was the perfectly placed comic relief in the first one? Jack Nicholson. Why did they think this would work if they stuck him in there for 2 minutes?
