Really like Cushing's doc in this but the plot and monster make-up were garbage.

The lab scenes are everything I'd hoped for: bubbling glass jars of coloured liquid, electrical sparklers, stage smoke, creaking steam pipes. And Cushing: my goodness he's mesmerising!

Somewhat ironically entitled since Dr. Frankenstein here is actually much more sympathetic than he normally is. An interesting variation on the usual "Frankenstein-creates-a-rampaging-monster" film.

Okay entry in Hammer's Frankenstein series with Cushing in good form as the Baron.

Never phoning it in Peter Cushing is enigmatic as always playing the beset Baron; his opening credits single shot surgery sequence is testament to that. Unfortunately Cushing was the only one who remotely tried as the rest of the film is an effortless waste of celluloid. The Creature's design here is supposedly based on the Karloff flat-top yet it looks so far removed Universal might as well not have authorized it and appears to be created by the makeup man's kindergartner out of paper mache.

So much is wrong with this plot. Once again, I'm fooled into thinking this entry, a reboot (thus allaying my fears of the last one's terrible ending having anything to do with this), could actually shape up decently, when the plot holes and poor characterizations pile up. At least this one didn't take 3/4 of it to dash my hopes, got it over much quicker. They decided to go back to the classic Frankenstein monster this time around, but the make-up job is horrible.

Peter Cushing did a decent job here but even he couldn't do much to salvage a film with as bad a plot as this one.

Cushing's a fantastic actor whose doctor is never less than compelling even when the story drifts & Hammer studios maintains a level of quality on all fronts that well exceeds their B-movie peers, but this spends literally half the film in a prelude that could've been done in 10 minutes. Aware that they're carving a franchise, the studio tries to make the doctor more sympathetic by inserting a shady opportunist into the mix who vies for control of the monster, but 1/2 the film's been wasted.

Underwhelming entry in Hammer's Frankenstein series, which, for some reason, completely ignores the previous two films. Cushing is a minor character for a large part of the runtime and the plot is muddled and disjointed. The idea of the monster being used as a weapon was interesting, but it wasn't conveyed well; all the hypnosis stuff was pretty dumb. The make-up on the monster was awful, too.

This is a very good looking movie, I love the sets, costumes, and of course the monster. Overall pretty simple and straightforward but it was a very pleasant watch and I'm really starting to see what people love about Peter Cushing. The townsfolk showing up with pitchforks to a castle already on fire was a nice play on the '31 film

This one was tough to get through. Mainly because Frankenstein's Monster looked so strange. Good dramatic music was about the only thing it had going for it.
