This movie is fun and exactly what I was expecting when I saw the title "The Evil". Most '70s horror movies were pure cheese and this is no exception. I found all the characters to be likable in a fairly generic kind of way and everything plays out just as you'd expect. The biggest downside I found was the design and use of the ghost which just looked bad and felt cartoony even though it wasn't animated.

Satan's preferred method of execution is apparently electrocution.

Contains just about every cliche you can think of from this genre: mad dog, warning ghost, ancient diary...

For a generic haunted house B-movie this film isn't that bad. Although full of plenty of expected tropes and cliches, the movies does have few creative kills and does an okay job establishing a somewhat creepy atmosphere. Certainly nothing to write home about, but if you're looking for a cheap ghost movie you could do a lot worse than this.

One of the more unusual horror films I've seen. A fun B-movie, thanks in part to the '70s fashions. Certainly had its scary moments, but a few silly ones as well. Richard Crenna was very good, as was the rest of the cast. The mansion is the Montezuma Castle near Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Decent horror but the ending hurt it a little for me. Surprising seeing Richard Crenna in this genre.

If all of this movie was as good as the last 10 minutes, it would be a minor classic. Instead it's almost entirely your usual Death In Interesting Supernatural Ways picture

As middle of the road as haunted house movies get, this extremely 70's & extremely Christian ghost-horror packs solid performances with good atmosphere & a few genuine spooks. The pacing is good, there's a nice dynamic among the cast, & the ambiguity of what's going on- at least until the ending- keeps things interesting. Not a lot of it makes sense, though, which drags it down some, & it's awfully preachy. The last 20 minutes is basically pro-religion propaganda. It's silly, but fun enough.

Quite old fashioned (even by 1978's standards) with rather mundane direction and routine score. It's not all bad: the location is great and it's a pity that it wasn't better utilized. There are also some cruel/inventive kills, but at least one scene is ruined by clearly visible strings on the actress. Crenna and rest of the cast is OK, but the characters are rather annoying and it takes them forever to admit/realize that something is wrong. The film ends on a low note with a laughable ending.
