There are strong moments in "Das Experiment", but they are drowned in far too much filler (including the most ridiculously tacked-on softporn sequences I have ever seen). Also, the "villain" and the "sidekick" are a little too cartoony for my tastes and the ending is way, way over the top. Quite frankly, I'd recommend reading a book about the Stanford Experiment instead of watching this.

It starts off rather slowly, but that only adds to the chilling climax of this film about how people react when put in situations of power. The film is really effective in showing how quickly order can break down and situations can get out of hand. A few small things didn't work but the whole is very good.

Where the first hour was interesting the last 50 minutes were overwhelming and shocking. It's even more shocking to know this is based on true events. One talked a lot about what would happen when ppl are put in extreme situations and I believe this movie captures what is a possibility. Disturbing. This film gave me about ten wtf-moments in the last 30 minutes and I mean this in a positive way. Incredible use of camera and music, all together in a piece of art. Psychologically great filmmaking.

Tense psychological thriller with ordinary men at each others' throats, revealing their animal side in a mere matter of days. The relatively unknown actors are all very convincing and Hirschbiegel does a good job behind the camera. A few of the story details might raise an eyebrow such as everyone signing away their rights so nonchalantly, but it is based on real events after all. Dark, bloody and satisfying reminder that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

A interesting and very compelling watch. Good directing and amazing pacing combined with a good script make a fine movie. Crazy that it was actually based on a true story. Tho the movie slightly dramatizes most things, it does have to squeeze everything in a time frame in 2 hours. At first i thought it was a bit unrealistic how fast everything escalated, but if you take that outta the equation you realize how mental it is, and how fuckin crazy we all are. . Or maybe its just the Germans...

Great film about the addicting and intoxicating effects of power and the abuses that may result. In addition to the film everyone should google the Stanford Prison Experiment and read the fascinating study.

Deeply unsettling. My only complaints are that the stupid unrequited love story seems tacked on and unnecessary and it flies pretty quickly down a slippery slope of improbable outcomes. Still, made me pretty upset when I saw it in high school.

Great filmmaking. Based on a true event, it really captures what could and how it could have gone down under these circumstances. It all starts out sort of as a game for most involved, but then the actual psychological aspect kicks in, and all hell breaks loose.

Doesn't deliver anything like it could, this is just a standard thriller dressed up as a psychological experiement. Fairly well done, but all a bit predictable.

Das Experiment doesn't say as much about the untapped brutality within many people as it does about the people who find this film an exciting form of entertainment, or the gullibility of those who think it was created with the noblest of intentions always clearly in mind.

An interesting psychological study becomes and predictable with an unnecessary love story and an incredibly historically inaccurate. Other than that, good performances and a great story.

This movie was probably more interesting because I knew the background on the experiment this movie was based on. That aside, I still thought the acting was half decent as well as the "plot".

Great movie , with most of all great filming. Film takes place in a narrow prison but doesn't get bored one second. Only the ending was a bit less , because the build up is very carefull and than suddenly everything explodes , but that explosion was was very nice to watch. Very good movie

Really good, but the whole thing was in German, and you had to read what people were saying on the "subtitles" - crazy, I hope this doesn't catch on in all films. I'm interested in social experiment stuff like this, so yeah I enjoyed it.

Cool little movie that is inspired by the events of the Stanford Prison experiment that took place in the 70s. The film is shot very well and the actors in this experiment do a wonderful job. This movie is pretty great up to a certain point and then I felt it got a little absurd. It's supposed to show how people would react in a certain situation and while it seems accurate and believable until a certain point then it just seems like it goes a bit too far. Still very much worth a viewing.

Good performances from an unknown cast (always more believable than seeing a Hollywood star in the same role), good scripting and an interesting based-on-real-life plot. Drags a little in places so the pacing could be improved, but overall a satisfying movie - one to watch with friends who'll talk with you about it afterwards. And a must for all students of psychology.

Perhaps not deserving of as high a score as this objectively, but for some reason I really really enjoy this film. It also made me see The Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice" as the object of torture that it is, which is a bonus I suppose.

The biggest thing that brought this down for me was some subplots that got way too much attention. Like how the main character is secretly filming all the events of the experiment. It was set up and referred to on many occasions, but didn't really have a payoff in the end. Overall it seemed unnecessary. Then there was the love interest plot, which essentially just showed that the main character had an opportunity to leave, but didn't. It took too long to illustrate that brief point.

So what if the Stanford Prison Experiment, which is a truly bizarre true story with an extremely striking lesson everyone should learn, went on and got out of control instead of breaking off after a few days after getting out of hand? As a student of psychology familiar with the original experiment, the movie chilled me. The first half of the movie follows the events at the original experiment faithfully, the latter half I could still believe, even if dramatised quite a bit.

Why did the guinea pigs have access to the researchers' domain? An obvious flaw in the set-up of this experiment. Other than that an excellent movie. What would you have done if put in that situation, whether it be guard or prisoner. Thought provoking stuff.
