Though I'm not a huge fan of sports movies, The Express has some pretty solid acting for relatively unknown actors as well as good direction. It kinds of fits into the failed Oscar bait category around historical drama and predictable race problems, but its not bad. In fact, i quite liked it.

If you're a sports fan looking for some inspiration, this is the movie for you. The Express goes into the life of Ernie Davis as he goes to Syracuse to fill the shoes of Jim Brown. This movie depicts many life lessons including racial pride, hard work, and determination. This film is perfect for all audiences and is guaranteed to leave you with an inspiration high. Ernie Davis did something that someone has never done before and may leave you thinking what you may able to do in your life.

Pretty standard as far as uplifting sports movies go, but has some nice touches with the direction and effects. Quaid is solid and Brown is good.

The first act is terrible. Characters give voice to absolutely every theme or idea that passes by. It's co clumsy and heavy-handed, I just spent the whole time wincing. About halfway through, though, it finally just settles comfortably into the genre of sports-underdog story. It doesn't get good, though, it just gets less painful.

Far more frustrating than that, though (and maybe partly to blame), is The Express' inclusion of totally unnecessary vulgarity and heavy-handed abuses of God's name. Families seeking a real-world history lesson will find more "realism" than they might expect in a PG movie ostensibly designed to bring a new generation up to speed on events that really should matter to it. For a football movie with aspirations to teach and inspire, that's a very disappointing fumble. (pluggedin.com)

Just ok, I was going to be on the Syracuse campus for a premiere of this one- I think that would have been fun.

Has absolutely 0 out of the ordinary. A lot of cliches, a lot of the same old things. But despite all that, it's OK. It is a good view of the past and tells a fine story and close to the real events as possible. It's just that the screenplay is not that good.

Um filme bem interessante sobre a vida de um jogador negro de futebol americano nos anos 50-60. Como era vista a vida dele fora e dentro do campo. Nem sei qual escolhia...

Dennis Quad plays a very inspriring role as the head coach and plays as a great leader. After watching this movie your inspired to go out and play football.

Brown's Davis is a likeable hero, but Quaid's tough but fair coach feels overdone, and the rest of the characters are briefly seen and quickly forgotten. The story, meanwhile, has its share of heartwarming moments, but they fall prey to cliche presentation; it's only the unexpectedly humble ending of Davis' football career that stands out (along with-on the other side of the coin-an annoying barrage of montages and jumpy camera work) in what is a very run-of-the-mill sports drama.
