The best part of this film was John C. Reilly looking ridiculous and the funny voices.

I watched this because my dear friend is the opera singer (and they used her real singing voice)--brava, diva! I like odd comedies, and this one is odd even for me...but keep watching--it grows on you. Kevin Kline is great, almost overwhelming, and Paul Dano manages to hold his own in their scenes together--no small feat (he reminds me of Bud Cort in "Harold and Maude"). Why he is still interested in the chick he works with even after she announces she's vegan is a complete mystery, though.

not a masterpiece however a great ensemble of good story and cinematography, well established characters, nice acting and well chosen soundtrack...

I like Kline's performance. Other than that it was a disappointment.

what a weird movie. It was hard to rate. This movie had good parts but some awful parts. Kline was pretty good.

"Like Kevin Kline's ridiculously pretentious Harrison, the film fancies itself much more interesting than it is." - Lauren Wissot

Kevin Kline gives a great performance in this film. Paul Dano is also very good in this movie. The script is very original, it contains several funny and interesting moments. There are also a number of interesting characters. Overall I would highly recommend this film.

The lead actor Paul Dano was weird, mostly boring, uninteresting and nearly impossible to relate to. Kevin Kline playing an eccentric man was entertaining but not convincing. The characters did not feel real or believable except for the quirky role played by Patti D'Arbanville and also Katie Holmes was enjoyable. I hated the narrator and the stupid voice used by John C. Reilly. The plot and script, despite being sometimes clever and very odd, was nevertheless disappointing.

Funny and charming movie. Well acted and made with subtlety.

What could otherwise be riddled with cliches and contrivances oddly enough seems organic due mostly to a first rate performance from Kline, and a elevated performance from Dano. Quirky, strange, and original, but unfortunately lacking an affirmed vision.
