Some creepy images and scenes, but the story is not all that original or interesting. If you've seen Asian horror, hell if you've seen the Sixth Sense, there's not much in this that will excite you.

3 of the scariest movie moments I've ever seen came from this.

It's a big improvement over its American counterpart with the similar premise, The Sixth Sense: It's not silly and it has a disturbing scene or two. Still nothing to write home about though.

A good movie, but a bad scary movie. To classify it under horror is an overstatement. Anyone planning on watching needs to know that. I didn't know what to expect when I saw this & ended up enjoying it. While I found the story interesting, others will find it boring or ridiculous. Some of the effects were quite good, others were cheesy. Some of the filming techniques worked other just left you thinking WTF. It will probably be a hit or miss but just check it out.

Some genuinely scary moments, but they taper off and the plot is terrible overall.

It was good, but not nearly as scary as I had hoped it would be. Or at all.

A couple of chills but pretty unspectacular and predictable.

I saw the sequel of this movie first and was wondering why they call it the eye. Now I can see it. But this movie is way too long, stretched short story. And plot does not stay in one piece. There's too much useless subplots and elements that lead nowhere. Surprisingly massive ending though.

Yawn. I'm not a fan of asian cinema and this movie didn't exactly surprise me. It's just a variation of the same ghost story formula that practically every other asian horror movie uses, the same kind of scares and the same cheap effects. The twist about halfway through involving the breaking of a mirror really gave me some chills though, but that's not enough to redeem this sleeping pill of a movie.

I totally agree with user "eveelun" - some startling imagery but storywise it's nothing incredibly different.

The general consensus is that it has some great creepy imagery but the story itself is boring and drags. I really agree.

Solid Hong Kong horror flick with some spooky, creative visuals and an interesting premise.

Not an original story and it was kind of boring. Still the acting and the special effects were alright. Nothing too special as I feel this is mediocre Asian horror.

I think the trouble with this film is that it has no mystery. Much of it is just a random series of ghostly apparitions that we learn little about and care about even less. Why is the old guy haunting a lift shaft? What's with the lady in the calligraphy class? "Oh, who cares, bring on the next ghost..." It picks up a little once the donor story is developed, but even then it's predictable as hell. The special effects are surprisingly dated considering it's only 8 years old.

Definately has its freaky moments. But the plot got a bit tedious towards the end and then I stopped caring.

Not the least bit scary, unsettling, tense or interesting, and nothing you haven't seen done better in other films. Quite dull and uninspired.

A mildly entertaining Honk Kong ghost story with decent acting and a solid if a little weakly executed story.

"The film is elegantly composed and offers the occasional fright but its minimalism is as calculated as its story is annoyingly familiar." - Ed Gonzalez

The story isn't very new, you've seen it in a million movies before. However, it's done in a better way than I've seen, and some of the scenes (like the elevator scene) are creepy. Not very scary though.. The special effects are good, and the end is BRILLIANT. Overall nothing new, but a good watch.

Ok horror that doesn't really provide any scares, but is well acted and will probably be a masterpiece in comparison with the upcoming remake

Well, asian horror stories are something from the other world. Very often we see how reality and the world of ghosts colliding. Same happens in this brilliant movie, what is directed by Pang brothers (twins actually).
