Beautifully constructed and tonally rich enigma. Delightfully ambiguous atmosphere and a story that's meaty & gripping yet easy flowing & very much open to interpretation. Music, cinematography and editing all work cohesively in the mysterious narrative about adolescence and collective "hysteria". A really fantastic directing job from Carol Morley. Agnes Goddard also deserves a mention for the gorgeous visuals. Acting bar is impressively high as well, especially with this many young actors.

"Picnic at Hanging Rock" minus the weird, mystical lyricism for a generation that loves Arya Stark.

Young girl dies, her friends all get psychosomatic epilepsy. "Hysteria!" yell old philosophers when adolescent girls seem to go mad with hormones (xref "Valerie and her Week of Wonders"). "Witchcraft!" cry others. "Fakers!", the more rational ones dismiss it. "Bloody kids don't know how good they have it", the old teachers mutter. Personally I'm just kind of enjoying the ambiguity, spooky mood and Very Britishness of it.

Excellent example of creepy ambiguity, and even 20 minutes into this, I was already feeling uneasy with the film's vaguely unsettling style and was later intrigued and baffled by the inconsistencies in the sickness. Without being too aloof, the film reeled me in with how it divulged its mystery, supported by some great acting (Williams' crazed performance is quite a stunner), horror-inspired editing, and a collection of modern-sounding, yet eerily nostalgic folk songs.

Call it whatever you like, but The Falling is terrible. What a crazy story. There isn't even an attempt to explain all the weird fainting, which is what I was waiting for the entire time. Williams truly disappointed. Pugh however is the only one that pleasently surprised. And she died a third into the movie. 18/100.

Maisie Williams is going to be one of the best actors in the world one day. You can see the cogs whirring behind her eyes, it's so unsettling.

You cant see really where the film will take you. Romance, thriller, occult ridden shit, but for some reason you keep watching it. Cinematography is beautiful, great acting from all the girls and even at the end you cant really put your finger what genre was this but it was pretty good ride.

Beautifully shot, Intriguing, sometimes shocking and very open to interpretation.

Rather unsuccessful attempt at sort of a deconstructionist psychomelodrama.
