You know what's blander than Paul Walker? Scott Eastwood. THEY SAID FAMILY FOURTEEN TIMES. The only time I talk about family is when I talk about how many times Fast and the Furious talks about family.

My opinion about this one didn't change too much. It delivers more of the same: Over-the-top action and stunts that are really well done and entertaining, some good acting and some bad acting, and Dwayne Johnson being awesome. It doesn't live up to the last three Fast films. Could be that it isn't directed as tightly as anything Lin or Wan did. Still, Theron and Johnson are great, and it's perfectly fine entertainment.

For how much family has meant in this franchise it's refreshing to see that Dom does not give two shits about his sister after Paul Walker dies. I mean, at least invite her to the BBQ where you give your new kid her dead boyfriends name. I feel that would be the "family" thing to do here, right? I mean, she's probably really sad and could do with a bit of cheering up. I'm pretty sure that, raising two kids on your own, you'd probably appreciate your brother cooking for you every once in a while.

The action and stunts from a James Bond film mixed with the plotlines and acting from a typical daytime soap. Charlize Theron as the main antagonist is no Jason Statham and she doesn't come close to matching his OTT performance in the last movie. The F&F series peaked at No. 5 and although this movie is better than films 1-4 it doesn't reach 5-7. Like the other films the best aspect has to be the racial diversity of the cast. Make sure to avoid trailers as they spoil every single action sequence

Possibly the douchiest movie in the history of douchebaggery. The first F&F was The Favorite Movie of my wife's boyfriend before we dated, and he was a douchebag. Every plot point - from Charlize as a dreads-wearing crocodile at the world's wettest watering hole to some contrived second Cuban Missile Crisis - is so desperate to appeal to his divine level of doucheness it can't even succeed at full douche-attainment. It's a Catch-22 of douche. I hope he enjoys it.

Having so many musclehead outlaws stating the importance of family is like glamorizing a dumber mafia but oh well.. The smartest thing this franchise ever did was to not take itself anywhere near as seriously as Diesel's 1-note bad-ss, which allows them to to come up with a lot of entertainingly wild & nutty set pieces. However there are diminishing returns & the characters unfortunately (& maybe necessarily) remain paper thin but walking charisma bombs like Rock & Statham are fun 2 watch anyway

The Fate of the Furious is the craziest F&F instalment to date and it's just become routine now to watch these films and accept that anything goes. As always there is fun to be had although the stupidity and gimmicks wear thinner and thinner as the series goes on. Charlize Theron is an underwhelming villain and the usual faces do what they do. But this film strikes with it's pairing of Dwayne Johnson & Jason Statham. I would welcome a spin off over the next F&F film that must see cars in space.

In the latest episode of the fantasy superhero franchise we have our heroes taking on nuclear submersibles with luxury racing vehicles. Theron is a dreadlocked Lex Luthor villain who traps Vin in a plot to steal nukes. Oops spoilers but don't worry there are more surprises including a scene where Stratham flies into a black ops jet in mid air. The Rock has gone full Hulk and slides torpedoes into military vehicles on ice. This lacked Obi-wan Paul Walker showing up in ghost form to guide them.

The Fate of the Furious is a fun ride, and if you're already on board, you'll have a good time. If you can't jive with its over-the-top action, self-parody wink-wink-nudge-nudge jokes, and penchant for mentioning "family" at every quiet moment, it's not the movie franchise for you - and it never has and probably never will be. These are loud, dumb, and silly movies. I wouldn't want them any other way.

Okay look, if you've enjoyed the series thus far (like I have), you'll probably like this one too. But they have definitely reached a point where they have to just keep upping the ante, that the story goes from over the top to just kinda lazy and stupid. It's great to see the team back together again, but it really does make you miss Paul Walker and make you want to see more of the (rumoured) Hobbs and Shaw spin-off.

The billion dollar franchise built off preposterous action schlock is back with possibly the dumbest film in the series yet. Although unlike the previous few movies, this one seems to take itself a little too seriously at times. The series' theme of family is painfully on-the-nose more so than ever with the introduction of a surprise baby. However by the end, the movie had beat me into submission leaving me with my eyes glazed over and a smile on my face. A mild 5 cans of Axe Body SprayTM.

It's on cruise control, and the Dom-gone-rogue plot is never convincing. Statham's character also makes zero sense - didn't he shoot up an entire hospital full of innocent people in the last movie? But... it's still plenty action-packed, even a bit too dark.

A definite decline from 7, this film toes the line between a completely senseless and inconceivable plot development, and engrossingly clever, astonishing, and well-executed action sequences. With a great villain and the old crew back together, it still worked, but you can tell it wasn't just right.

It's a drop for me from Furious 7 which is the first of these that I can say I had fun with. But if the plan is to infuse these movies with like 10% more story each time, I'm down, because it's to their benefit. Charlize was a boss and a good villain. I can't tell you anything else you probably don't already know. It's dumber than 7, the action isn't as good as 7, there's not much script to speak of, it subscribes to all the worst elements of its predecessors, but is more entertaining than some.

Much as I may decry big budget bullshit, budget does matter, and this film proves it - this same dumbass script done up with straight-to-DVD shoestring money would be laughable at best, but man do they put every buck up on screen with impressive destruction and stunts and effects and explosions here. I do understand that action films like this have to walk the line between realism and fantasy. But what the Fast and Furious franchise is doing is simply getting out of hand. At this point it's not even stupid fun anymore, it's just stupid. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham do share some great scenes together, but sadly there is still too much bullshit and too fucking much of Tyrese "trying to earn a paycheck" Gibson.

Do you remember fast and furious? You know, the movies about street racers and an LA cop? Street racers with the technical knowhow to take down nuclear submarines and attack Russian military bases single-handedly, but who chose to street race instead? Well they've taken a departure from their origins. Am I mistaken or did a rubber bullet spark and ricochet off the rock's face in the prison escape scene? The part before he throws a torpedo into an armored car, but after he snaps his handcuffs off

A much welcome change of style. They finally fully embraced the fact that they are an over the top franchise that doesn't give a fuck about being realistic, and it's much better that way. The cast is great as always, and there were as many expensive cars, promiscuous women, hollywood fight scenes, and giant explosions as you'd expect. If you can shut your brain down for two hours, it's enjoyable.

A return to the clunky, middling storytelling that marks the worst of this series - all the sadder since the brilliant FURIOUS 7 left the series on a perfect end-note. Oddly enough, Walker's usually bland presence is missed here, even as the increasingly cluttered landscape becomes even busier, wasting a bored Theron in the process (Diesel, Johnson and Statham all fight to hog the limelight). Sputters to life during some of the action (especially the prison break) but largely forgettable.

I had about as much fun with this one as I did the last one (I've only seen two). Silly, stupid (real stupid) fun. I quite enjoyed any time there was violence outside of the cars, but the driving aspects are relatively fun... I say relatively because if I was a car/vehicle nut then I'd be more into these. With that said, I still enjoy them for what they are but they can't reach a truly great action film. One of the few series where "turn off your brain" is legit. Just enjoy it.

These movies succeed in what they set out to do. They aren't meant to be smart. They're meant to be fun as hell. The banter, the over the top action, the scenario, it's all completely ridiculous and none of it would happen in any remotely realistic setting. But realistic settings went out the window many movies ago and they're just here for the fun. That said, there was a gratuitous amount of unnecessary CGI which left me wanting more.

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. The first four films range between 103 and 107 minutes. The next four are between 130 and 137 minutes. The decision to change the formula by adding an extra half-hour clearly reflects bigger budgets ($85 million or less for the first four, the next four steadily increasing from $125 to $250 million), but whether this level of silliness and computer-generated action can sustain two and a quarter hours of entertainment is debatable.

Intellectually on par with a Michael Bay film, but with a truckload more heart. The directing in this instalment seemed weaker, with less well-framed shots, more awkward out-of-sync moments between actors, and CGI that was ridiculous even by this franchise's standards. The weak writing makes Theron's character underwhelming. Statham steals every scene he's in. The film is loud, action-packed and fun; everything you'd expect in a FF film, even if it takes itself a little too seriously sometimes.

Fate is definitely in the lower tier of the franchise, and it's not bad, if you love these movies, none of them are bad. Fate lives and dies by its gimmick plot device, and it's interesting for a little bit, but it really feels like a distraction from the obvious issues they ran into without having Paul Walker. The fast movies aren't about there narratives, but the family and the stunts. When you lost part of the family, you overcompensated another part. That's not the way to go.

A really fun, dumb action movie. Physics and plot holes are ignored. Characters change allegiance and do complete 180's from previous entries in the series. Paul Walker not being here hurts the movie a lot. But the action, the real reason we all watch these movies, is some of the strongest in the series. While nothing beats cars jumping between buildings, the rest of the action scenes are on average, higher quality and stakes then average action scenes from previous FF movies.

The big problem with this series now (both on and off screen) is that it has to cater to too many egos. The whole thing is a game of musical chairs making sure every actor/character gets their share of time and posturing. Did we have to replace walker really? Couldn't that have been a welcome reduction in the number of faces that had to be thrust in front of us? All this juggling hampers the action. The setpieces are merely "cool" tho I'll admit the finale eventually got exciting.

It took them eight tries, but finally after taking every action movie trope from the nineties, dropping them into a blender and adding "but with cars!" Neither its writing nor composition are nearly sophisticated enough for its lofty ambitions, and its groaning self-seriousness is only relieved by Dwayne and Statham being cheeky in their delightfully silly roles. Having seen this one just before the 7th one, it's evident that the wholesome stories of family (including friends) and whatnot are easier to emerge in without the knowledge of back-story than other certain movie franchises. This sort of effortlessness and unpretentiousness in the story department certainly makes the action sequences even more impactful, most of which here are akin to realistically rendering to the big screen the fantasies of a young boy playing with cars.

Def a step down from the previous entries, cause Gray isn't as good in action directing as Lin and Wan are. The start in Cuba is good, but the big finale is a bit lackluster. It attempts and fails to deepen the theme and psychology by having Vin question his loyalty to family. Theron makes for a laughable incapable whiny baddie. The gunfight on the plane is super rad and there isn't anything that is too absurd to be in the movie (except for the final explosion). Good job guys, you finally did it.

The scope this series has reached is kind of amazing. It all started out with some street racers who were suspected of robbery or smuggling, and now it's about saving the world from nuclear war. It's gotten so ridiculous, I honestly want to see the series keep topping itself higher and higher.

Mostly because of Jason Statham.

Vin Diesel is, have always been and will always be the worst. Why the guy has such a large fan base is one of the great mysteries of our time. Anyway ... While I usually like The Rock, Jason Statham and Kurt Russell a lot, they aren't very good here, and the ludicrous plot certainly does no-one any favours. Least of all poor Charlize Theron who's pretty awful as the baddie.
