Jackie Chan is a youngster, living in a remote vllage with his grandfather who teaches him Kong-Fu (naturally). He keeps getting into fights, even though his grandfather warns him not to show their Kong-Fu to others. Jackie, though, is tempted by some thugs he beat up to act as the master of a Kong-Fu school. This school's name apparently spreads far, as an old enemy of Jackie's grandfather (who turns out to be the master of an old gang or something equally obscure) shows up and kills him... (imdb)

The major takeaway from this movie for me is that Jackie Chan makes a pretty sexy drag queen, and that I'd totally hit that ;)

A simple plot that is highlighted by a goofy protagonist who's mistake allows evil dudes to do wrong and then he must avenge said family after prolonged training montages. There are half a dozen set pieces that are really fun and a few jokes that don't age well. This is a comedy-first kung-fu film and an impressive directorial debut from Chan. The final "emotion fight" is as silly as it is exhaustingly cool.

Viewed April 1, 2022. With energetic panache in the direction and the thinnest possible framework of a story as a guide, Chan pieces together a series of peerless action sequences with beautifully integrated slapstick, displaying the casual brilliance that makes him one of the greatest movie stars the world has ever known.

In his directing debut Chan already had a good grip on what his own strengths are and the kind of movies he wants to make. The first hour is mostly comedic. Not all comedy work, especially all the wordplay which is lost in translation. The fights tho are fun, with Jackie running circles around his opponents, constantly dodging, rolling, jumping etc over them, dressed up as caricatures, in one instance even as women. The last half hour is continuous entertaining training sequences and fights.

The fights are good and humorous but nothing you can't find in better Jackie Chan movies. The weird thing is I hardly noticed this movie going by, because the plot was so slight. I guess I was entertained enough not to be bored, but very little actually happens here.
