The Final Year

It's nothing special in the grand scheme of things but wow what a cold splash of water in the face to see the intelligent, thoughtful, competent people who held power and think of the wholesale buffoonery that has replaced them.

A wholly one-sided and aggrandizing look at the final year of President Obama. It's not at all that I disliked Obama or that I think that what followed was better, I just fucking hate propaganda, know what I mean folks?

Blatantly partisan documentary is still a compelling portrait of intelligent, well-intentioned people navigating political bureaucracy; while there are no substantive fireworks, seeing largely decent, competent people doing their jobs is always fascinating, and the events of late 2016 give the film a more emotional and poignant finale than the film-makers likely intended. The unguarded (and moving) final summation delivered direct-to-camera by President Obama is a definite highlight.

Of intrinsic interest, but too unquestioning and uncritical.
