The Flesh and the Fiends

Decent, and unsettling to see Donald Pleasance with hair. However having recently watched The Body Snatcher, this suffered in comparison.

An exploration of the Burke-Hare murders, and a very creepy film. Donald Pleasance gives a particularly nasty performance. Hammer horror at its best.

Cushing's very good, so is the supporting cast. Its primary purpose is to be sensational and that takes away a bit from the more serious themes in the film, but it still does both things well.

Eu fiquei absolutamente abismada com o final com a galera aplaudindo o Dr Knox, não sei que tipo de animal reacionário faria aquilo, mas o Dr. Knox era de fata ainda mais desprezível do que retratado no filme, além de conivente com os assassinatos, foi um dos pioneiros do racismo científico, ou seja, ele foi um dos mais atrozes membros da comunidade científica de sempre, terminar o filme com ele arrependido e aplaudido é de um mau gosto sem precedentes. Excellent.

Pretty great atmospheric thriller that handles its material with an impressive directness. The streets and alleys present Edinburgh as a maze from which no one escapes, even as death closes in. Dr. Knox's scientific materialism seems above it all, even as the film clearly parallels him with the body snatchers. One works on principles, the others for money, but both operate on a fundamental greed that ignores the humanity of their neighbors.
