That favorite American duo, Laurel & Hardy, are in Paris this time with Oliver's sights set on a young lady. One thing leads to another and, before you know it, they are enlisting in the French Foreign Legion. The film dragged in places and humor occasionally fell flat (dated I suppose), but this does contain some truly classic comedic scenes. (e.g. the laundry from hell) The song and dance routine they do to "Shine On Harvest Moon" is most memorable, and the ending was quite clever I thought.

This is the first Laurel and Hardy film I've seen since I was very young, so I don't know if I picked a bad one or if they (or I) have just aged really badly. Much of the humour fell flat for me; either telegraphed a mile off, or really, really basic. How many times can you watch Stan hit his head on a wall and still laugh? Still, there are a few amusing moments, and the sequence at the end with the plane is very good.

Not for me although I did enjoy these as a child.

So utterly stupid! Just the way I like my Laurel & Hardy! And with no distracting characters like in their MGM movies. The suicide, the washing, the flying.... THE HORSE!!! Oh, what fun!

One of the most famous and entertaining of the Laurel and Hardy films, but not the best. See 'Way out West' for the peak of the feature film career.
