Jody Hill and Danny McBride write some dark, depressing shit. Marginally worse than Observe and Report and nowhere near as good as Eastbound and Down which is the best work Hill has done. I still can't help but be impressed with how smart this brand of humor is, even if the execution wasn't all there.

Very obviously has many commonalities with 'Observe and Report', including their sense of humor which is based on awkwardness and the tragic. I understand what it's going for but when it doesn't quite get there as a character study then it needs to be funny - and there is a serious dearth of laughs.

It's really funny at best and McBride is good but the movie is in dire need of a good supporting character.

As Jodi Hill's debut film it plays like a trial version of "Observe and Report". As if he wanted to see what would work and what would fall flat. Danny McBride is funny but has little to no support so when his jokes fall flat they fall hard.

A funny, well put together parody, with more than its fair share of really funny moments. It's quite dark in places and the whole movie has good self awareness to it. I'm not normally a fan of Danny McBride, but he leads the film well here. Worth hunting out.

The Foot Fist Way is a Danny McBride show. He carries the movie for the first hour but the lack of good supporting roles starts to show more and more as the movie progresses.

Danny McBride has made an unforgettable character here. Not much of a story, but that's not very important.

Collette Wolfe is so sexy, I want to see a lot more of her. The movie is pretty much the opposite of that. Danny McBride is really stupid, can't act for crap, and is annoying as hell, especially considering he wrote this pile of crap. Acting from Mary Jane Bostic was also really bad. This movie is mostly a complete waste of time, except of course for the scenes with Collette Wolfe. The entire movie is lousy, shabbily written and boring and I can't believe I watched all of it.

A pretty funny parody of martial arts instructors who take themselves way too seriously. I know guys just like Danny McBride's character. The ending is sorta cliche and it drags a bit in the middle, but there's lots to enjoy here if you like McBride's style.

A small glimpse into early Kenny Powers character development. It is worth seeing for a few laughs and uncomfortableness extraordinaire.

This movie didn't start off too well with me, when I saw Will Ferrell mentioned (the Presenter). The style of this movie is...well...weird. Its sort of docu-drama style. It has a cheapish/budget feel to it. This could be a good thing that deliberately sets the tone and mood. The acting and stories are ackward and seem to be deliberately uncomfortable. None of the characters are likable (douches, as they put it). Not my cup of tea.

It's decent and Danny McBride is quite funny but it's clear that none of the supporting actors are really up to their roles, excluding the quiet kid who managed to overcome his confidence issues, he was very good. It's got some really great moments, such as the martial arts school bully laying out a senior lady, but a good portion of the film isn't that hilarious.

Plays out like an early prototype for 'Eastbound & Down'. The series is obviously more refined and has much more to offer in terms of a supporting cast but this movie is still damned funny, mostly because McBride wills it to be so. If the show is a story of an asshole struggling to find redemption, then this is one of a loser whose life is spiralling out of control -- they tie together nicely like that. Simmons is an even bigger idiot than KP, but McBride is just so likeable that you don't care.

A bit of an oddity that falls between comedy, drama and painful awkwardness. Watching Eastbound and Down before this movie might not be the best idea since McBride's character just makes such an impression in that show and makes him feel more subdued here, even though his performance is really good.

This film is a must see for all Danny McBride fans. It is very funny with most of the laughs provided by the lead character. The main character is outrageous and absurd but extremely funny.

Weird yet funny. It's a tad unfortunate that it seems nearly impossible for Danny McBride to break from this character's mannerisms though.

This is a film about an asshole who is a dick to kids because reality is not as good for him as the world in his head where his wife loves him and his heroes don't take his money and fuck her.

Low budget often equals unfunny, but that's pretty far from an accurate statement about TFFW, which was cheaply made but very funny when the jokes succeed. Not all of the jokes work, but McBride is enough of a presence and his character is written in such a way that you're not thoroughly convinced that they're supposed to work every time.

A very goofy but rather amusing character study that owes 100% of its modest comedic success to Danny McBride. The prototype of the later brilliance of Observe and Report.

I love Danny McBride and I'm glad that I went back to see the movie that started it all. You can see classic Danny McBride in this movie. It's usually very funny with just the right amount of cringe. This movie felt very low budget and indie, which I think hurt it at times with some really bad acting. I could see myself watching it again but it doesn't really fit the mold of a classic, even a cult classic.

Viewed February 19, 2022. Establishes Hill and McBride's satirical formula, mining pathos out of the misadventures of a mediocre white man (McBride as a pitiable taekwondo instructor who sometimes kicks his little kid students in the head). McBride’s familiar halting delivery is already established, and Hill smartly realizes how sympathetic McBride’s presence can be even when he’s engaged in irredeemable behavior, which adds an unexpected emotional resonance to their crude comedy.

A funny little movie, a harbinger of the infinitely superior Eastbound and Down. McBride is adept at bringing pathos to the braggadocious man children he portrays and the consistent juxtaposition between Hill's montages of frivolity are amusing.
