Two Michael Keaton vehicles back to back....I must be crazy! So Keaton goes from Batman to Birdman, then plays another type of bird man, as the Vulture, then plays a different type of "vulture" in this film, and if you look at the poster, it appears that he has a set of red wings. It's official...Illuminati confirmed.

A little history behind the business of the fast food giant McDonalds. An interesting walk down memory lane of how McDonalds was started, by whom, and how a scrappy salesman co-opted it all. It is just a little sad to know the original inventors got screwed. Much like how the present day customers get screwed every time they consume any of the unhealthy foods served there. I think it should be renamed to McObesity, McDiabetes or McHeartAttack.

Demonstrates that McDonald's, more than anything else, is a real estate corporation that accrues money from fees, rent, and royalties. The business model is extremely clever, extremely devious, and is designed entirely to do one thing: expand and make a profit. Ray Kroc was an asshole and Michael Keaton gives him the performance he deserves.

The Founder feels like the Social Network of the fast food phenomenon that is McDonalds. This is a serviceable viewing experience and by no means a groundbreaking piece of filmmaking. But it moves along at a surprisingly swift pace and I was entertained throughout due to a ruthlessly charismatic performance from Michael Keaton who elevates this film dramatically. Laura Dern is criminally underused and overqualified for her limited role but John Carroll Lynch & Nick Offerman make a good pairing.

Its fast food meets 'The Social Network' (doesn't quite reach the heights of that masterpiece), Michael Keaton continues his amazing comeback with a stellar performance as the charismatic totally unlikable protagonist - Ray Kroc. Casting all round is fantastic. Stylized and very fun.

Hard to judge fairly since I hadn't expected to see this & made the mistake of reading a revealing review & learning details from a news program which resulted in losing any surprises. It's also disheartening to watch a film about a desperately ambitious cutthroat becoming uber-rich by franchising a business model that turns workers into cogs & praises junk food. Still, it forces viewers to consider some truths about the kind of ugliness thats often required to become a giant in business

Great, finely-acted, briskly paced and entertaining story of ownage and backstabbing and corrupt business dealings in the heart of Fatmerica. Basically aims to be to McDonald’s what The Social Network was to Facebook (with the McDonald brothers playing the Eduardo Saverin role), and while it’s not best-of-the-decade tier like TSN I really enjoyed it. Laughed out loud at what an asshole Kroc was at the end lots of times. Even the nagging wife subplot wasn’t too bad.

Really fun little story, but just makes you more and more angry as it moves along. Keaton is as great as I've come to expect from him, but the supporting cast was a charm as well. Probably the best bit was the brothers telling the story of how they really started the whole business. Also, fuck Ray Kroc

Well made but fairly dry at times. It's mostly a portrayal of a vicious asshole and I am not sure if he's supposed to be likeable, but he isn't.

Michael Keaton is flawless in his portrayal of the charismatic salesman in thief as Ray Kroc as he takes the McDonalds brothers idea and franchises it out into one of the largest companies on the planet. His acting is top notch, never serving it well-done. The camera is beautifully stylized, but that's almost a guarantee in 2017.

It's nice to see a biopic not treat their subject with kid's gloves. He wasn't a terrible guy in most respects but Ray Kroc was a dickhead in regards to business. I assume most people who are successful in business are dickheads though. Too bad he had to fuck over two guys to do it. Keaton, Carroll Lynch, and Offerman are great. Dern is so underused she could have been replaced with a cardboard cutout.

The familiar rising business biopic is given a bit of an interesting twist with the compelling Kroc vs. McDonalds dynamic that pits the former's growing greed and business savvy against the conservative and sympathetic simplicity of the latter, but it still feels a little conventional and skimmed-over. All told though, it's a solidly acted story that expertly fleshes out its main characters with well-crafted scenes (see Ray's bookending monologues; the brothers telling their story at dinner).

The Founder is the sanitised story of the McDonald's brothers faustian pact with Ray Kroc, the man who transformed their humble fast food chain into a global behemoth by screwing them over. Keaton performs a fine tight rope act as Kroc: he is portrayed somewhat neutrally as an admirable ambitious asshole. Unfortunately, it never settles on a compelling framing device, trotting out a generic rags to riches tale without considering the far reaching social implications of the changes he wrought.

The Founder is an interesting look at the origins of McDonalds and the ruthlessness and greed of Ray Kroc. The cast deliver engrossing performances. What lets the film down (a little) is the characterisation of Kroc. While undoubtedly an arsewipe, his transition from defeated salesman to overly-ambitious profiteer is glossed over, making the whole film feel superficial.

"The Founder" (2016) Many of us know the story of how Ray Kroc acquired McDonalds, but this film really delves into how the McDonalds brothers re-engineered the restaurant industry and invented "fast food". These guys were geniuses. Their vision and persistence was extraordinary. Unfortunately, Richard and Maurice simply didn't have the business savvy to turn a revolutionary food service location into a national enterprise. Keaton was top notch. A well directed and acted film with a VERY interesting story. I do wonder how much of it is true. A good watch about a brand and the person behind it and how they fot robbed. I do believe the 3rd act was sped up a bit, maybe because how it got done might have bored the audience but too much was done to show Korc to at least have some reasoning behind what he has done. Which he doesnt.

It's a shame so many of the historical facts were tweaked and omitted from the story. Some nice cinematography. I don't think the performances were any faults of the actors so much as they were the directing. The film was made with the intention of mass appeal and so characters were fairly two dimensional. Probably my favourite aspect of the film was the score. Subtle but pretty.

Enjoyable and engaging look at the creation of a cultural milestone; echoes of THE SOCIAL NETWORK abound, and while it can't meet those lofty standards, the first-rate cast helps sell it, with Keaton perfectly cast as the initially down-trodden but ultimately sharkish 'loser'; Offernan and Lynch are both by turns hilarious and touching as the woebegotten McDonalds brothers. A shame Dern can't bring any life to the supportive wife role.

THE FOUNDER strives for nuance in spinning the tale of Ray Kroc, the man who seized on the cheerfully mercenary spirit of mid-century American business to create a corporate fast food behemoth. The movie suffers from standard biopic compression issues, but Michael Keaton's intensely committed performance as a high priest of salesmanship provides a nice through-line in its portrait of unapologetic ambition. Still, though the tale is far from hagiographic, it could stand to be a little more arch.

It seems this film was made so a plethora of comparisons to the franchise's own foods could be made in terms of quality -- the DVD says "a good deal more to chew on here than any quarter pounder can provide". Let's just say however you feel about the food is how you'd feel about this film.

It could have been a great film, because it seems to have a rich screenplay, if not with a few issues that could have been ironed out, but the direction was unforgivably poor. FIVE DUTCH ANGLES FOR WALKING INTO A BANK. The shots just looked uninteresting and dull, the score was just annoyign rather than setting a mood, and overall, the sum of its parts ruins what a good screenplay was. An example of a good story ruined by poor direction.

I think there's an interesting story in this movie, but film itself is quite limited in scope and sanitises what is clearly the much darker underbelly of the whole thing. Sometimes it felt like it could be more like The Social Network (2010), and maybe it could have been under a different writer or director, but yeah, it just wasn't that interesting. Keaton and the rest of the cast are fine. It wasn't a bad movie, but I feel like there was potential for it to be great.

For me I had no idea about how McDonald's first came about, I was simply just interested in the backstory of it. However, I found this to be one of the most interesting and outright disgusting movies of all time. Keaton killed it as Kroc, however I never found myself hating someone so much. Even if it isn't completely true to its material, I felt for the brothers, and it shows how scummy business can be and what some will go to just to make money. I can't help but feel that the script could have been much nastier and more interesting had the edges of the story not been sanded off -- either to stave off potential litigation or to give the film a broader appeal. As it is, 'The Founder' is watchable but often weirdly sentimental (and occasionally downright corny), despite a very engaging central performance.

First, he's a failed salesman, then he lucks out, then he realizes he had no idea what he was doing in the first place, but finally figures out how to take over and is an evil genius.
