One of those found footage horror movies that can't keep the genre down and ends up being a slasher flick trying to be found footage. There is also a weird racism vibe in some scenes that don't gel with the rest of the movie.

It's a found footage Frankenstein movie. How is that not just inherently awesome. In the end it's Rare Exports meets The Thing meets Blair Witch with hints of Quarantine. It's really pretty great.

I don't quite understand what he, and they, expected. Read the fucking book first!

I never realized how much I wanted to see an adaptation of Frankenstein done like this until I learned this movie exists. It's not particularly scary but it's still pretty rad. I think it's primary weakness is that it falls far too much into very predictable horror movie beats towards the end, going the same route as most non-Japanese horror mockumentaries I've seen, right down to familiar tropes playing on the genre conceits. Still, the concept carries it well enough that it's pretty good.

My theory is that there hasn't been a single watchable Frankenstein film since Brannagh went ape shit with it in the 90s

Awful found footage movie Sounded like it might be a good story but basically nothing happens till the last ten minutes of the film You never get to see much of the monster and when you do its in night vision or heavily covered up and all the kills are off screen

The Blair Witch Monster sets out to tell the "true story" behind Frankenstein, proving yet again that we pay good writers good money because "true stories," for the most part, are far more clichéd and trite than anything you can make up, and any story trying to emulate them gets boring. Not a bad film - just one that takes an interesting story and turns it into another unimaginative clone of something we've seen a million times before.

My only complaints with this movie is that it follows the same plot beats as a lot of other found footage horror movies, and that the monster isn't scary at all, he's just a big dude wearing a bunch of furs. Timothy Murphy's performance is a standout.
